3D vs real life

working with different types of film techniques brings different challenges. For the set of Hugo the crew had to rebuild a whole set and set up a shot. it took 4 hours for just one shot!

Studio System vs independent films

Europe tends to favor independent films and admire the filmmakers where America has a studio system that admires actors more.

Children and Animals

There are serious limitations that can hold a film back when working with animals and children. Some of those limitations are very ethical and necessary but the work arounds for these limitations can be achieved with 3D elements!

Part of the purpose of the Producer is figuring out the Art of the Possible. Sometimes directors are perfectionists but when the shot s taking too long to get and the budget is getting stressed Producers may need to work with what they have and MOVE ON!

Long shoot days?

The producers explained how they prefer shorter shoot days because an exhausted cast and crew tends to yield lackluster results. Additionally, having shorter days allow room to extend if truly needed!

A Producer's nose

A good producer should have a nose for good material. The video used adaptations from a book as an example. Some successful source material I have seen adapted to good movies includes Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings!

Relations to Directors

Producers want to support the artistic visions of the directors but often times have to remember to prioritize the investment of the studio. Be honest with directors, how far they can go.

Producer Relationships

Do not burn bridges with directors, actors, crew because they may not want to work with you again. Everyone is different so maintaining those relationships can look different for everyone.

The speakers did believe in moving towards binding credit arbitration to ensure that only those who contributed a large percentage into a film's production receive the producer credit. This will give more weight behind the producer role in a film.

Reality of script-writing

Passion takes time

Having an ending

Having an ending in mind when writing your story if good. It gives you a frame of reference but you have to create how the character gets there and what they learn along the way.

We are making a film not a documentary. The biggest liberty this writer took was the compression of time. Sometimes people do not have the grace of seeing a long time relation ship within a movie.

Losing time
