• When- February 9, 1898 A letter was written by Spanish ambassador Enrique Dupuy de Lôme. (April 1898-December 1898)

• What- This letter contained the criticized opinion of Enrique to Don José Canelejas discussing the Spanish involvement in Cuba and President McKinley’s diplomacy

• What- This political letter influenced and fulled the fire between America and Spain (Soon to be the Spanish-American War)

• Why- The significants of this letter is that because of Enriques remarks, it effected the relationship between these once allies. The war was fought between April-Decmber of 1898 that ended with the victory of U.S. and them receiving sovereignty over Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines, and establishing a protectorate over Cuba.

• Enrique was known to make critical comments but significantly known for his De Lôme Letter

• Our main idea is that these remarks/comments from the De Lôme Letter written by Enrique was a leading point to the Spanish-American War

• In the end the U.S. won and took over Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines, and protectorate over Cuba.

• When- Queen Liliʻuokalani’s was overthrown in 1893, pention against annexation in 1897, and On July 7th 1898 the Hawaiian Islands had been annexed with a joint "resolution of Congress" (1893-1898)

• What- Queen Liliʻuokalani’s was the rightful queen of Hawaii when her rights were taken and the first president of Hawaii (Sanford Dole refused overturn his powers.

• What- Queen Liliʻuokalani’s struggled to restore her rightful power and would write letter to the U.S. government until the Annex which made Hawaii a U.S. territory.

• Why- Queen Liliʻuokalani’s attempts consisted of letters and which in this case most famously known " Queen Liliʻuokalani’s Protest Letter" which was a respectful protest against against the assertion of ownership by the United States of America of the so-called Hawaiian Crown Islands amounting to about one million acres.

• why- It was an illegal and injustice act said by Queen Liliʻuokalani that still ended up unjustified.

• Queen Lili’uokalani was queen from 1891-1898 and known as the last monarch ruling Hawaii.

• She was overthrown but never stopped fighting for her rightful thrown even through the annex of 1989.

• What- The open door notes were o ensure equal trade opportunities in China and prevent any single nation from controlling Chinese markets

• What- The policy sought to protect U.S. economic interests and maintain China’s territorial integrity. While not formally accepted, it influenced U.S. foreign policy and China's international relations.

• Why- It established a key player to global trade to help prevent the colonization of China. It also helped make trade agreements.

• What- A foundation was formed by people of color, mostly African Americans, to fight for the rights of the minority. They want the government and people to see how their race and the country can benefit from just working together. • What- There was a fire that started in a factory causing 146 people to die, mostly all immigrant women, and they died between burning alive and jumping out of the windows of said factory.
