After watching the movie “Macario”, we realized how much the country has changed since that era of Mexican history. The movie showed what appeared to be a very poor Mexican family that was composed of a hard working father that chopped down trees and sold it, a mother, and 5 kids. At first we can see how the father “Macario” was very tired of not being able to eat because he gave all of his food to his 5 children. One day he was delivering his chopped down trees to a local bakery when all of a sudden he saw that a rich family ordered a huge order of turkeys being baked in that bakery. He wanted one for himself, but couldn’t afford it. His wife stole one to give it to him, and then he took it to the forest to eat it. Then, he saw a man that needed the turkey because he was hungry, so he gave half of it to him. That guy gave him a bottle of magic water that can cure patients depending if he could still live or not. He started making lots of money, bought a house, but then he was sent to trial because many people thought he was doing black magic. He got an order to be executed because he couldn’t cure the king’s son, and he escaped. He then died because his death candle extinguished in the cave of the guy that gave him the magic water.

Proposals
- Build more Clínicas de Atención Integral al Autismo (CAIA)
  - This is a very good proposal because it will make people feel more included and safe knowing they have the support and recognition they need.
- Línea 7 del Metro
  - "... va a mover tres veces más personas que un camión de los que conocemos y va desde Lincoln hasta Juárez, para poder transportar, sobre todo a la gente del norte de Monterrey que necesita estas oportunidades para moverse" (Rodríguez, 2024)
  - While it is not a train, it's a bus, this proposal could be very effective and provide mobility to the city.
- Capacitación contra el maltrato infantil en escuelas
  - This proposal could be very effective because there are people which need to know this information and need to see the initiative the town has to solve the issue.
Fallacies
- Actividades culturales en las colonias
  - While on paper it may seem like a great proposal, on practice it could be very ineffective because many people aren't interested in participating in cultural activities.
- Programa de atención y prevención del trabajo infantil
  - This proposal sounds very good but it won't be as useful since the young kids that work are doing it out of necessity and it's what's best for their families, not all are forced so not all will listen to the programs.
- Nuevas canchas deportivas en todas las escuelas
  - While kids do need to have P.E. in their schools and general lives, they're more important uses for the money in public schools, simply in improving the overall infrastructure and the conditions they learn in.

Adrián de la Garza - Coalición Fuerza y Corazón x Nuevo León

Proposals
- Nuevo León Seguro
  - He promotes security and the installation of new patrols in various parts of the city and strengthen the overall security and guards.
- Puntos Violeta
  - He will use it to promote calm and put a stop to gender violence in the city. These points are very effective and Monterrey could use many of these in dangerous zones
- Seguro Popular
  - It is very popular, and if Xochitl and Adrian win their respective elections, this method will be even more effective because it will be properly implemented in Monterrey. Many citizens are demanding it so it will be useful.
Fallacies
- Gobierno Eficiente y Solidez Institucional
  - He is promoting transparency and no corruption but it is very unbelievable coming from his past in Monterrey and the political party he is associated with.
- 11 new infrastructure
  - While it does sound ideal and could benefit, many people will be against it since these create a lot of traffic and usually take long.
- Agua y Drenaje
  - This is something that has bothered the citizens for a while, and it may be effective but it has high chances it's not. Water scarcity and contamination is present everywhere and simply just stating that he will fix it makes no promises at all.

Mauricio Cantú - Coalición Sigamos Haciendo Historia

Proposals
- Mejorar la pavimentación de las calles y el alcantarillado
  - Very promising and needed proposal. This can very easily be achieved by effort and dedication from the municipal government.
- Bombeo de agua potable
  - This could solve many families' crises and also help Nuevo León with the current water scarcity since it is coming from new resources.
- New infrastructure in parks and communities
  - Seeing as this construction is planned to be in parks and not openly disruptive places, it can be very effective and may be finished quickly since it does not get in the way of flow of traffic.
Fallacies
- Tree planting
  - While this is very simple and easily effective, it is not and probably will not be the utmost priority since Monterrey is a very difficult city tu run, so it may not be fullfiled.
- Digitalize contracts
  - While this may be a great idea, they will have all the power on contracts and money extractions which can provide great temptation for corruption and foul plays.
- Transportation
  - New transportaion is needed in the city, yes, but that will only creat more traffic and unsafe streets, knowing how most bus drivers get around, so many people will be against this decision and will complain.

El Mercado Los Cavazos is located in Santiago, Nuevo Léon. This is not like a regular mercado, it is on a side of a road, things we found there were a lot of wood crafts shops, a lot of pan de elote, esquites in a cup, lots of ceramic crafts, toys, etc. We thought it was going to be like your normal mercadito, where people get there and put their own type of shop, but it was completely different. They are stable shops, where some are dedicated to selling a little bit of everything and some are dedicated to selling just specific things. But what they all had in common was that they all sell some catholic products, this has a realtion with Alejandro del Bosque's reading, we are really attached to realigion, whatever the shop was selling they always had a product realted to jesus, in the wood craft shops we got to see some amazing sculptures of the face of jesus, we also saw huge wood crosses, in the cermic shops we saw the same, crosses made out of ceramic, every shop had their own different products, bracelets, neckleces, even shot glases. This type of shops demonstrates to us that how after all this years our thoughts and beliefs has not changed a lot

La Ley de Herodes (40 points)

The activity “La Ley de Herodes” consisted of searching for 6 proposals from each candidate of the upcoming presidential elections for the United Mexican States. We needed to analyze each of the chosen proposals and determine if they were idealistic or realistic. Doing this type of activity was actually very helpful because we got to learn many of the candidates proposals and determine if they are actually proposing that or they just say that to get votes. Most of the proposals of each candidate were realistic and achievable, but some of them were idealistic and would take decades of work in order to achieve those. Overall, this type of activity helped us to have a better idea of the main proposals of each presidential candidate to have a more informed vote for the upcoming June 2, 2024 elections in this country.

This project was very interesting because we needed to perform a set of activities in order to get to know our country better, which is Mexico. Mexico is known to be one of the richest cultures in the world, and this is why Mexicans are very known worldwide. With this set of activities we were able to learn more about certain aspects that make Mexican culture. In this particular challenge we chose to watch a “Cine de Oro” movie and compare the socioeconomic conditions of that era to today era, we chose to analyze each of the presidential candidate proposals and see if they are realistic or idealist, we chose to watch a debate from the candidates running for municipal president and making an analisis, we also went to a local market, and did the activity of “Heroes Anonimos”, where we needed to identify a member of our community that does something to help other members of the community. In conclusion, this type of activity helps us to be aware of the current conditions of Mexico and have a better understanding of the social, cultural and economic aspect of our country, as well as how politics affect our country.

While doing this project, I got to learn more about our community and Mexican culture. Mexico is a beautiful country, filled with history and ancient customs which not many people know about. In this project, we were given a wide variety of activities we could possibly do, all contributing to the values that Mexico stands for. The activities we chose were, Llévele, Llévele, which consisted of visiting a market and observing the items sold, Amorcito Corazón, watching a movie and analyzing the differences in their way of living and comparing it to today, La Ley de Herodes, which was to analyze the presidential candidates' proposals and consider if it is realistic or idealistic, Heroes Anonimos, identifying a member of our community which we consider a hero, among others. Overall, this activity was very enriching and provides a depth of our culture to make us realize how proud we should be to be Mexicans.

After doing this project, I realized how Mexico is Filled with opportunities that thanks to the bad management in the government, citizens from all socioeconomic levels have not been able to use. I also realized that I live in a type of bubble, where I don't need to worry about many things going on in other parts of our community. Llevele llevele had an impact in my vision on how "mercaditos" and how some people need to do their daily shop there, we chose the presidential candidate proposals, it helps me to have a more informed vote now that I am an adult and I'm able to vote. Also watching "Macario" helped me realize how much our country has changed in the past years but how our culture remains untouchable and impenetrable. In general this were just a few examples of how our county works and what are the conditions that the rest of our population lives in, in gave us a better understanding on why we have the culture that we, and why most of mexicans are proud of being mexicans, I think mexicans represent hope, mexicans represent brotherhood and mexicans represent persistence at least that is what this challenge makes me think.

Heroes Anonimos

The person we chose to talk about is the famous entrepreneur and executive Arturo Elias Ayub. He is primarily recognized for his work at “Grupo Salinas” one of mexico’s largest conglomerates, in which he held various executive positions. Additionally, he is known for his involvement in philanthropic and social initiatives, one notable example being his work in “Fundación Telmex” the philanthropic arm of Grupo Salinas. Throughout this foundation, Arturo has been involved in projects focused in education, health, culture, and social development, aiming to improve the lives of people across Mexico. For instance, Fundación Telmex has supported the construction of schools, provided scholarships for students, and offered healthcare services in underserved areas. Arturo is also widely known for his work in the famous TV show: Shark Tank Mexico. This show is about investors seeking small businesses for them to invest in. Helping the small entrepreneurs with their business by loaning money and providing his business knowledge. Without a doubt, Arturo Elias Ayub is a role model for not only Mexicans, but to the whole world. Simply by his way of seeking how to help others and his various social projects. Arturo is a clear example of being humble and caring. It is clear that we need more people like him in our community.

Honestly, I really enjoyed this project, not only for the various things I realized, but it was something different from what we are used to doing. I realized in a sort of way how privileged we actually are, and all the various opportunities we have. Llevele llevele helped me realize how fun and amazing going “mercadito” shopping is, and how many people rely on selling those “chuches” in order to have food to eat. The other activity I really liked was: La Ley de Herodes, which consisted on searching the proposals of the upcoming presidential election in Mexico. Besides realizing that the political world in our country is a complete joke, it helped me realize why our country is the way it is. Full of corruption, violence and many other things. On the other hand, the activity: Heroes Anonimos, made me regain hope in our country. Realizing that there are people fighting to get our country up on its feet again. People like my uncle, Arturo, who is not that anonymous, but tries his best on doing what's best in our community.
