prospectors overran the Lakota sioux territory to mine, they did not abide by the treaties. in june of 1876, Lt Col. George A. Custer launched an ensemble onto the native americans in the great plains. the native americans overpowered the army but the Lakotas were forced to return to the reservations and give up on the Black hills.
