I denne tid, kunne man vælge imellem at være punker, en stil, hvor man går i sort og farver sit hård. Oprindeligt stammer hanekammen fra punkermiljøet, fordi det gik ud på at se provokerende ud. Man kunne vælge at være discer, hvor man tog på diskotek og klædte sig i discotøj. Og så kunne man være new wave, det er en mindre aggressiv version af punk, blandet med andre musikgenre, som f.eks. pop, rock og reggae.
Hip hop opstod fra USA og kom til Danmark, det var en befrielse for de unge, som ikke passede ind ifølge normer og som manglede nye måder at udtrykke sig på. Flere danske rap-grupper formede sig og flere unge begyndte at gå i det rette hip hop tøj og breakdance.
