In the instructions on number 8, Jonas is told he is allowed to lie. He has never done this before and is really clueless. He is not sure how to go about this task in the instructions.

When Jonas reads through his Assignment instructions, Jonas’ last rule says that he can lie. In other words, lying is not allowed in the community, but Jonas is allowed. The author is trying to make us see that lying is not something that is done. Jonas has never lied before and now he is allowed to. This quote is important because it shows how his Assignment is different and important. I can draw the connection that lying is bad so it is not allowed, but with a important job, it is. This passage had a significant impact on my thinking about how we have the freedom of speech and that we can lie, which is wrong.

Jonas is reading the instructions and one of the rules tell him to lie. He has never lied to somebody before so it puts stress on him, and lying is usually not allowed in his community. The author is trying to make us see that even in a community that’s against lying, the secrets of the receiver are too important and Jonas is allowed to lie to keep them safe. his passage had a significant impact on my thinking about why some people keep secrets. It makes me realize that secrets will always be there, even when they aren’t supposed to be. In the real world secrets are shared or kept with or between many people, for many different reasons, and in Jonas’ case, it was to keep everyone safe.

As jonas is reading his assignment, the note reads “you may lie.”In other words, jonas is allowed to lie while he is on this assignment, as in he can lie about what he has learned or even lie about revealing it to everyone else too. The author is trying to make us see that even so the community is against anyone lying, that Jonas is still willing to lie to them to keep them safe. This story had a significant impact on my thinking about lying. It shows that lying isn’t only used for bad situations. It’s not supposed to be okay to lie but to be able to lie to keep your community safe is a good thing to do, kind of. Even though lying will never be okay, it was kind of a good thing saying that he
was keeping everyone else safe.

When jonas reads his assignment, the note tells him that he can lie. it shakes him up because he had never lied before, and he really starts to think about why, and finds that he can lie, so that he can protect people. It applies to the real world because of government positions and how secret they are, with classified stuff. the author tries to make us think that lying is a very foreign concept to the people who live in the communities around them. Another great example of this is when jonas had his first stirring and how oddly people reacted to it.

This quote is just an everyday thing that everyone does eventually. People lie quite a few times in the real world because they might want something or get away with something or they just like to lie.

Everyone lies, whether that be to stay out of trouble or to make sure nobody gets hurt or its just a secret. Lying is nothing new it the real world.

The author is trying to make us see that he would have to have something to hide for him to lie. This quote moves the story forward by showing us that Jonas might have to keep things hidden from his family unit and friends.
