There are many new technology innovations emerging in order to enhance education, training, and performance. While this article describes the new technologies of augmented and virtual reality in surgery, this can be related to nursing through the use of these technologies for nursing skills. Augmented reality is the addition of artificial information to one or more of the senses that allows the user to perform task more efficiency (Khor et al, 2016). The newest example augmented reality is AccuVein, which is a projector-like device that shows the veins on the skin surface. This can most definitely be beneficial for nurses, providers, and surgeons when located veins and artery for placement of PICC lines, IVs, and surgery. Virtual reality can also be helpful in the education and training of surgeons and providers in that it generates an immersive, completely artificial computer-stimulated image and environment with real-time interaction (Khor et al, 2016). It has already been used for endoscopic training and is continuing to grow throughout healthcare education. The newest version is a headset that has high quality immersive environment, with tools to interact with the virtual environment. The issue at hand is do the benefits outweigh the limitations or legal pitfalls related to argument and virtual reality if healthcare.

After reviewing the article on Augmented and Virtual reality related to surgery and healthcare education, I believe that there is great potential for improvement in training and procedures performed by providers and surgeons. While there are some setbacks to AR and VR such as cost, confidentiality, and size of devices, I still believe the benefits outweigh. Through continued research and technology improvement, the "kinks" can be worked out and provide increased experience and confidence in real-time procedures.
