Orthomyxoviridae, also known as Influenza virus, is a human pathogen that infects the respiratory system, giving us what we know as the Flu. The virus enters your body through the mouth or nose and causes symptoms of fever, headache, fatigue, coughing, aches, stuffy nose, and sore throat. Influenza can help be prevented by getting an annual Flu vaccine, and maintaining good hygiene like covering mouth/nose when coughing/sneezing. It can be treated by antiviral medications (Tamiflu), plenty of liquids, decongestants, acetaminophen (Tylenol) for fever reduction, and plenty of rest. People who are most at risk of getting Influenza are geriatrics, people with underlying conditions like asthma, children younger than 5 years, pregnant women, and overweight people.
