Week 3 of August

In chem 1, we learned all about how to naming compounds, ions, and etc. It was all so confusing at first. While doing seatwork, it was so troubling because I didn’t get the rules because they were so many of them. Becase, what do you mean by the prefixes -ite, -ide, -ate and so on! I wracked my brains trying to answer our seatwork. I hope I can understand it better the next week😇😇

As the month of august is coming to an end, I have splendid news to tell ! I think i’ve upgraded my learnings about Chem. I understand it more na, hehe, kaysa sa last week. What ma’am carren discussed this week was all about naming acids and bases! It was easy naming bases, but for acid… I think I got the hang of it naman XD.

Other sections were so flabbergasted na may quiz na 50+ items! And me, na makalimutin, panicked, without knowing na tapos na kami sa seatwork na yun😋😋 At this point, i’ll just imagine that Chemistry is equal to potions class in hogwarts🫠🫠

Week 1 of September

This week, we didn’t have any discussions with Ma’am Carren. But, we had a lab experiment and a library work which helped us learn all about certain reactions in Chemistry! 🙀 There’s combustion, where reactants react w/ oxygen and create energy in the form of light and heat. Combination, where two reactants produce to make 1 compound! And otherwise, Decomposition, a compound decomposes to form 2 or more reactants. For single-replacement, I can’t think of anything besides a love story 😞 it’s like, there’s this couple who broke up and the man’s bestfriend took the man’s girl and now they started dating. 🫡 Orr, pwede rin man dahil sa electron affinty(?) that’s what I remember during grade 8. For double-replacement, the ions of two ionic compounds switch. That’s all for week 1 of september 😁 i’ll study for chem next week and that’s a promise. Supernova kinda reminds me of chemistry.

This week, we discussed about stoichiometry — and i’m actually good at it (for once) also restudied the past topics because of the chem midterms next week😭 and I referenced my learnings from notes that were from SMC? hehe. got the link from somewhere and it’s actually rlly rlly rllyy useful !! understood a lot, especially sa polyatomic atoms which i didnt get before. For example — NICK, the BABY CAMEL ate an INCH CLAM and CREPES for SUPPER in PHOENIX.

the bold words r actually compounds that r hard to memorize! For you to determine what it is, first, you must count the consonants and vowels in the letter —

note. consonants = # of subscript of oxygen and vowels = # of charges of the compound

Ex.

NICK - NO31-

BABY - BrO31-

CAMEL - CO32-

INCH - IO31-

CLAM - ClO31-

CREPES - CrO42-

SUPPER - SO42-

PHOENIX - PO43-

and the ate in the sentence is a reminder of their names !! of how they end in ate :))

im thankful for how we’re (lithium) so advanced in chem😭😭 becuz lihium was missing out sa ibang sections TR

anyways, see u nanaman next week padlet 🫶 (damo hirinuon next week, du ma bus g nako ahhahahahahahah. kaya ni, lagi’t lagi para sa bayan! 🇵🇭)

Time flies by so fast, 2 months na kami gina-turuan ni Ma’am Carren sa chemistry. hwjwja nag-midterms rin kami sa chem this week, kunti lang study ko (legit) kay sabi ng Cesium easy lang daw kuno. I didn’t expect na medium difficulty for a subject na nahihirapan talaga ako masyadooo. Gavwhw let’s hope this continues until i‘m a pro. And also, stoichiometry was a bit confusing at first, pero you’ll get the hang of it once you practice :3

Actually, du easy man lang tung oxidation rules 💪 bale, e remember mo lang ang important ones, which is: (1) the oxidation number of any uncombined element is 0; (4) The oxidation number of fluorine is always -1; (5) The oxidation number of oxygen is always -2 unless combined with Fluorine, in which case it is +1 and +2, or it is a peroxide it is -1; (6) Hydrogen’s oxidation state is always +1 unless combined w/ a metal in this case it is -1; (7) Elements of Group 1 and 2, as well as aluminum, have the oxidation numbers as +1,+2, and +3; and lastly, (8) The sum of oxidation numbers of all atoms in a compound is always their charge.
