Theis stumbling stone is for Chaim Wassermann.

The sculpture group consists of two naked young men. One stands with a sword in one hand and reaches out to the fallen with the other. As a whole, the group expresses a sense of camaraderie and fighting spirit.

The poem on the front of the pedestal is written by Otto Gelsted (1888-1968).

The memorial to the fallen in the resistance movement on Amager (AMPA) was unveiled on May 5, 1949.

A memorial stone for those who fell on August 29, 1943, erected by the division's officers' association.

Naval aviator Ulrik Birch began his training on Amager in 1910 and later trained as a pilot in France. After serving for only a short time as the head of the navy's still very modest air service, he crashed at the then airfield on Kløvermarken.

The sculpture depicts four airplanes in flight and a massive eagle, which is held together by cloud formations to create an elegant silhouette effect.

The monument was unveiled on August 18, 1938, in memory of Danish aviators who lost their lives while flying and to commemorate Denmark's contributions to aviation, both in civilian and military fields.

The association "Danish Aviators," which had Crown Prince Frederik (IX) as its patron, conducted a fundraising campaign. The location was chosen due to its proximity to the historic airfield at Kløvermarksvej.

The two curbstones with inscriptions and a bicycle were created at Victor Nielsen's Stone Workshop in Copenhagen. In connection with the Danish Cyclists' Federation presenting the bicycle path award for the first time on June 4, 1983, the municipality received the two curbstones for later placement at an appropriate location. The award was given for the municipality's efforts in creating new bicycle paths and painting blue bicycle lanes at intersections. The curbstones with inscriptions were unveiled on Amagerbrogade on September 22, 1983.

The S-shaped glass pavilion was created by the world-renowned American artist Dan Graham specifically for Byparken. The work plays with the surrounding urban nature and the urban qualities of Ørestad, which are "distorted" when viewed through the glass – both from the outside and the inside.

Christmas Møllers Plads was named after the conservative party leader John Christmas Møller, who served as the country's Foreign Minister immediately after the occupation in WW2. Christmas Møller openly criticized the policy of collaboration and called for national resistance against the occupying forces.

The artist Sophia Kalkau: "Zygote engages in a dialogue with the history of the square, and the word "Zygote" derives from the Greek "zygon," meaning yoke or harness. A yoke is a device that allows heavier weights to be carried than would otherwise be possible alone, because the load is distributed evenly. In other words, when we use the yoke correctly, the burden becomes easier to bear, especially when something binds us together."

The sculpture stands at the intersection of Amager Boulevard and Amagerbrogade. The name 'Godot' refers to Samuel Beckett's play 'Waiting for Godot' from 1953.

The sculpture is cast in the classical material bronze, and Christian Lemmerz used both 3D scanners and 3D printers to achieve the shape of the sculpture.

The sculptures in the playground are based on the fairy tale "East of the Sun and West of the Moon" by the Norwegian authors P. Chr. Asbjørnsen and Jørgen Moe. They are designed as an integrated part of a playground constructed according to principles of accessibility in connection with the European Year of Disabled Persons 2003.

The fairy tale revolves around a prince transformed into a polar bear and a poor girl who embarks on a perilous journey to save him. Along the way, she encounters various mythical characters. The polar bear is carved in wood, while the prince and the girl as princess are in granite. Carved in wood are three horses, the ugly queen, and the ugly princess with long noses, the troll witches, the four winds, and the troll masks. In a semicircle, there are granite tactile sculptures with different reliefs.

At the Farm in Remiseparken resides Thomas Dambo's troll 'The Pacifier Troll Sanka'.

The square at Wittenberggade/Lyongade was previously an unused piece of scrubland, mostly functioning as a garbage dump and dog toilet. A resident of the building adjacent to the square took the initiative to significantly transform it. Initially, new paving and trees were installed, followed by two sculptures by Knud Ross Sørensen: one of a dancing couple and another of an accordion player providing music for the dance. In the winter of 2009, a gigantic chandelier designed by architect Lasse Schalde was installed above the square. The chandelier consists of a steel ring with 12 lamps hanging underneath. These lamps display the changing colors of nature through colored LED lights.

The square is supported by the Neighborhood Renewal Project in the Øresundsvej Quarter in 2009.

Sea

The sculpture is part of three temporarily placed works, Sea, Soil, and Sky, which together make up the Sundby Portals. The sculpture, with its shape, references the sea, where the metal shell is designed to resemble mussel shells.

The sculpture is clad, wrapped, with eelgrass.

Sky

The sculpture is part of three temporarily placed works, Sea, Soil, and Sky, which together constitute the Sundby Portals. The sculpture, with its form, references the sea, where the metal shell is shaped to resemble mussel shells.

The sculpture is covered, or tenget, with eelgrass.

The project has been an experiment in using both recycled and natural materials in public artworks. The project is supported by the Sundby Urban Renewal Fund's New Meeting Places and Special Shortcuts initiative.

Soil

The sculpture is part of three temporarily placed works, Soil, Sea, and Sky, which together make up the Sundby Portals. The sculpture is based on chalk, hemp, soil, and clay, as a way to honor both the historical agriculture that has been a significant part of Amager since the 1600s and the enormous clay moraine on which Amager is based.

The project has been an attempt to experiment with both recycled and natural materials in public works. The project is supported by Områdefornyelsen Sundby's fund for New Meeting Places and Special Shortcuts.

Hein Heinsen's sculpture stands as the endpoint in Ørestad Syd on the border to Kalvebod Fælled. The 7.5-meter tall sculpture is composed of two spirals intersecting in a movement that ascends and descends respectively.

Stories are told about the contrast between the near and the distant, and between countryside and city. The artist has called it "a stake in the current of time." It also references the spire of Christianshavn's Our Saviour's Church, as a sort of mirroring.

Externally, the three blocks together form a rectangular footprint, while the "break surfaces" and spaces between the three elements are irregular and organic.

The artwork was donated at the time by the Copenhagen Municipality's Cultural Fund.

On a circular, artificial island with granite steps all around, a tall stele stands in the middle. It is composed of 12 stone blocks made from various types of granite. Each stone block features reliefs of the front and back of a female torso. Twelve women of different sizes and ages provided their bodies for the plaster casts from which these reliefs were carved. The other two sides of the stone blocks have indentations with green vegetation. Water trickles down from the top over the polished female figures.

Surrounding the stele is an airy pavilion consisting of four sections, each representing one of the four elements: fire, water, earth, and air. A light steel structure supports four canopies made of leaded, mouth-blown, colored glass with stylized depictions of figures and animals.

The island is situated in an artificial lake on the edge of Amager Fælled and can be accessed via a bridge made of corten steel. At night, the glass canopies and the granite stele are illuminated from below, the latter from under the water, creating a shimmering effect.

The artwork was donated by the Danish Arts Foundation, By & Havn, and the Year 2000 Foundation.

The modern girl in a tight blouse and skirt, along with shoes featuring a sturdy heel, strides forward with a sack in hand, referencing her participation in a sack race. The nearby Sundby Idrætspark justifies the choice and placement of this woman and her athletic activity.

The sculpture consists of two symmetrically mirrored elements made of red bricks. Although the structure serves no functional purpose, its architectural expression follows an unyielding logic, referencing a solid Danish building tradition where craftsmanship was paramount. The building, without a roof, windows, or doors, acts as a boundary between urban civilization and nature. The openings also provide a view of Copenhagen's skyline with its characteristic towers.

Two neighbors have revitalized a small square in the neighborhood as a tribute to the author Klaus Rifbjerg, who was born and raised right here on Ingolfs Allé in Sundby.

Bjørn and Torben have worked on the project for three years with support from their homeowners' association, as there was consensus that the small square in the middle of the neighborhood could use some tender loving care.

Sculptor René Schmidt created three sculptures, each offering their perspective on Rifbjerg's life and literary works. With a new bench in the center of the square, Sundby now has a lovely little meeting place that also tells the story of one of Denmark's greatest authors.

The neighborhood renewal fund 'Nye mødesteder og særlige genveje' (New Meeting Places and Special Shortcuts) from Sundby and the Amager Vest Local Committee have supported the project.

The beloved artist Leif Sylvester, who was born and raised in the Holmbladsgade neighborhood, has decorated Nordøstamager School with three magnificent artworks.

The artwork 'Freedom Flies' stands next to the school, facing Prags Boulevard. The pilot atop the plane symbolizes the young individuals who, after completing their school journey, have become ready to venture out into the wider world.

Bjørn Nørgaard's sculpture showcases various carving techniques used in stone masonry, from bottom to top: rough-hewn, point-chiseled, fine-chiseled, finely ground, and polished.

Bøggild's keen observational skills and diligent study of animals' behavior and movements are legendary. The unusual subject of the cow, in the somewhat cumbersome process of rising, first on its hind legs, then on its front legs, is depicted with great empathy.

In 1956, a cement sculpture was erected by the Albertina Foundation and the Copenhagen Municipality's Cultural Fund with funds from the Nancy Hage and son Hother Hage's legacy for the general benefit of the city. This was replaced by a bronze version in 1965. The original was returned to the artist so he could further refine it.

Woman Combing Her Hair

The nude, voluptuous female figure likely represents someone who has just stepped out of the bath. She holds her hair with one hand and combs it with the other.

The sculpture was installed on May 14, 1941, in a small enclosed area owned and maintained by the Workers' Building Association.

The blue-painted steel sculpture with yellow edges is composed of geometric-organic elements in a fanciful expression.

The sculpture depicts a few days old calf. Initially, it was intended to be placed in front of the wing with the younger classes, so the children could come into direct contact with the animal figure. The commission came about after an exhibition the artist had at the school.

A sculpture installation created by Hein Heinsen. The four differently shaped wedges in yellow-painted steel are arranged in a cross formation.

The sculpture in Remiseparken was created by sculptor Helge Holmskov in 1979.

Originally, the sculpture was installed at the library square between Dyvekeskolen and Solvang Church. However, just four years later, it was taken down due to damage caused by a severe storm in the autumn of 1983.

After many years in storage, the sculpture has now found its new home. Helge Holmskov passed away in 1982, so he did not witness the sculpture being removed from its original location. Perhaps he now finds joy from the beyond knowing that it has been resurrected, now beautifully positioned at 'Velkomstpladsen' in Remiseparken.

The sculpture the Dog's dog created by Lis Hooge-Hansen is stylized and symmetrically shaped, yet organic in form. It is humorously conceived, sitting with its nose pointed straight up.

On a large marble block with white and gray streaks lies a completely white marble lump, which is flatly cut at the top and bottom. Three of its sides are roughly hewn with saw marks and drill holes. The front side is shaped into a funnel-like form, reminiscent of the cavities found in a skull.

The sculpture, located in the small corner square at the entrance to the playground area, is meant to symbolize "the deep source that enriches us all with dreams, imagination, humor, and faith in the future."

Ørestadsselskabet provided cobblestones for the benches surrounding the monument.

"Dagdrømmeren" (The Daydreamer) is owned by the City of Copenhagen and was financed by the Holmbladsgade Neighborhood Improvement Project.

The sculpture Forward features a figure holding its own severed head. The motif is inspired by the myth of Perseus, who set out to decapitate Medusa. In artist Harvey Martin's version, the heroic deed is accomplished by severing his own head instead.

Balance originates from Greek mythology and interprets it with a wink. The work depicts the giant Atlas, who carries the earth – or the universe – on his shoulders, while he balances on the tip of a pyramid.

The glowing orbs in the University Canal are one of the area's natural stopping points.

Since 2015, the Orb Family has resided in the water under the bridge at Njalsgade and the University of Copenhagen. The artwork was originally created by artists Pipaluk Supernova and Thomas Jørgensen from Live Art Installations as part of the Copenhagen Light Festival. They were created in collaboration with Ørestad Vandlaug and the Ørestad North Homeowners' Association.

Remember to visit the orbs after nightfall. They are nocturnal creatures and therefore sleep during the day. You can find them at the northern end of the University Canal at Njalsgade.

Lying Calf (Liggende Kalv)

The sculpture "Liggende Kalv" (Lying Calf), created by the artist Gudrun Lauesen, was offered for purchase to the City of Copenhagen in 1952.

From the City Architect's office, there is a recommendation regarding the purchase:

"... regarding the sculptor Gudrun Lauesen's bronze figure 'Liggende Kalv,' I must say that I find it exceptionally graceful and very lively, although it is less suitable for being placed freely in a public space in the city due to its modest size. In one of the newer schools or kindergartens - and primarily indoors - this small sculpture will certainly assert itself artistically and bring great joy to both children and adults."

Bust of Lauritz P. Holmblad

The bust of Lauritz P. Holmblad was unveiled in November 1899 and was realized through a public fundraising effort, which received significant support on Amager, where Holmblad engaged in extensive philanthropic activities. He was a co-owner of the paint factory Sadolin & Holmblad. The bust is designed with distinctly realistic details in the face and clothing.

The sculpture by Anker Hoffmann was installed in 1972 and is hidden in the courtyard at Uplandsgade 6A.

The sculpture on Christian II's Allé is from 1896 and depicts the people of Amager.

Carl Mortensen was a danish sculptor and painter.

Harald Quistgaard was a danish sculptor and designer.

The bronze sculpture 'Girl interring an urn,' in english translated into 'Girl putting an urn' into the ground'. It was created by sculptor Johannes Hedegaard in 1946, who was for many years the emblem of the Danish Cremation Society. The figure is located in Sundby Cemetery.

The local artist duo Randi & Katrine have created the artwork at Kofoeds Skole. The artwork is Kofoeds Skole's smoking room, an 8-meter-high cigar designed with a band, rolled copper leaves, and ash on top—featuring indoor smoking facilities such as chairs, a table, and ashtrays.

"When you are at a social service like Kofoeds Skole, you have to acknowledge that many people still smoke and that smoking is not the biggest problem for the citizens. In recent years, many smokers have felt marginalized. Therefore, it is wild and wonderful that Randi and Katrine, in collaboration with our students, have come up with the idea for probably the most spectacular smoking room in the city. They have worked with form, design, and the development of the ordinary frameworks for what and how one can design social services, so there is room for both the quirky and the beautiful," says Robert Olsen, head of Kofoeds Skole.

The artwork is supported by the New Carlsberg Foundation.

In connection with the transformation of the schoolyard at Amager Fælled School, visual artist René Schmidt created 22 works specifically for the schoolyard. The schoolyard has been transformed into a new school forest and green oasis, surrounded by an open "border zone" in the form of concrete walls of varying heights and sizes. The 22 geometric sculptures are based on the geometric brick reliefs of the school building and literature, including German biologist and philosopher Ernst Haeckel's Kunstformen der Natur from 1900.

The transformation of the schoolyard is based on an urban renewal project and was developed in close collaboration between architect Lene Nielsen from the Children and Youth Administration in the Copenhagen Municipality, Nord Architects, as well as the school's students, teachers, and local neighbors. Thing Brandt Landscape acted as the lead consultants on the project.

At 'Ved Amagerbanen', there is a piece by the street artist SPYO.

SPYO's (often unauthorized) works around Copenhagen are characterized by thought-provoking and system-critical statements, often using irony and humor as tools.

The artist's identity is not known to the public.

The artwork is created by street-art artist Andreas Welin. Welin's style is figurative, and he particularly focuses on themes that reflect the local area. This piece is also a result of that focus.

According to Welin, the artwork aims to appreciate the many natural areas we have in Amager. It prominently features the great crested newt, which is protected under EU nature conservation laws, symbolizing its role in delaying a major construction project on Amager Fælled in 2021. In direct reference to the issue, Welin added the great crested newt to the motif.

The mural is part of the urban beautification project at Gyldenrisparken.

Gerda Åkesson began her career as a dancer and often incorporates ballet and dance motifs into many of her other works. She was educated at the Academy of Fine Arts under Vilhelm Lundstrøm from 1943 to 1945.

The two ceramic reliefs are embedded in the red brick facade of the building at Spaniensgade 25, on either side of the entrance. The colors predominantly feature ultramarine, cobalt blue, turquoise with gold, and white. The firing of the reliefs was carried out at Jean Bertrand Tessier's Atelier du Cep in Villenauxe (Aube), France.

The artwork has been created in collaboration with Sundby Local Historical Archive, Bibliotekshuset Rodosvej, Niels "Turbo" Jørgensen from Klub 47, and residents who have lent the artist old photographs from the area.

Once located here was the Bredegrund allotment area, a recreational space for local workers providing access to nature and kitchen gardens. It was a place to relax and spend time together during leisure hours. Later, the legendary Klub 47 emerged, serving as a unique and creative haven for local youth over the decades. Klub 47 was known for its open-minded atmosphere and served as an important springboard for many musicians and artists who are well-known today.

The artist Thomas Pålsson, in collaboration with the residents of the property and the Sundby Local Historical Society and Archive, has delved into the area's history to create a historically based artwork. The mural on Oliebladsgade specifically illustrates the property's and the area's past and identity, directly referencing the building's history as a post and telegraph office.

In creating the artwork, Pålsson has utilized historical photos from the property and the area's past.

The artwork is created by Nicholas Koshkosh (born 1995), who lives and works in Moscow. The Ukrainian-born artist has gained international recognition for his colorful paintings.

In his works, Koshkosh employs a unique visual language composed of both Western and Eastern European symbols and references. He is particularly interested in reinterpreting myths, incorporating everything from magical creatures and biblical figures to characters from folk tales.

The project is curated by Jens-Peter Brask and has received support from the Sundby Områdefornyelse's cultural funding pool, "Culture that Connects," in 2021.

Kurated by Brask Art, the artist Fugleburet has created a gable mural resonating with historical echoes inspired by the area's recreational identity, exemplified by Sadolinparken's openness in an otherwise densely populated residential area.

The Danish artist Bjørn Magnussen works primarily with painting as his medium. In his works, he combines unique color combinations with soft forms and figures. His artistry moves between the figurative and abstract, characterized by bold colors, clear brushstrokes, and depictions of distorted human figures.

Magnussen's works are inspired by primitive folk art, incorporating a variety of symbols and references that create recognizability and appeal to a broad audience.

The project is curated by Jens-Peter Brask, supported by the Sundby Områdefornyelse's funds 'Culture Connecting' grant.

The painting shows the danish actor Jesper Klein, who was a great train enthusiast and had a special connection to Amagerbanen as he lived on the island for a period.

The murals were originally supported by the Amager East Local Committee, while the restoration in 2020 was sponsored by Amager residents, Copenhageners, railway enthusiasts, and nature lovers.

The artwork features the Bicycle Mosquito on a railbike, an old locomotive from the time of Amagerbanen, and a Franz Jäger safe wagon, referencing the danish movies about Olsenbanden "Olsenbanden på sporet" parts of which take place on Amager.

The murals were originally supported by the Amager East Local Committee, while the restoration in 2020 was sponsored by Amager residents, Copenhageners, railway enthusiasts, and nature lovers.

Behind Amager Centret, at the corner of Frankrigshusene and Ålandsgade, you will find a gable mural erected in 2017 by the locally residing artist Jan Wessel.

The artist is inspired by the surrounding green areas, where diverse sports activities can be practiced. The motif thus has a direct connection to the area where the gable is located.

The gable mural also conveys a strong affirmation of life through its colors and movement, symbolizing the courage to leap into something new and unknown.

Peter Birk is an artist from Aarhus who started by painting graffiti and now owns Galleri Grisk in Aarhus. Today, Peter Birk's art can be experienced in galleries, museums, and notably on the gables and walls around the city.

When you pass Wulff & Konstali on Lergravsvej 57, you will now be greeted by a large artwork. The popular breakfast and lunch spot has commissioned artist Henrik Soten to transform the entrance facing the street into a large graffiti-inspired painting.

Henrik Soten has roots in the graffiti and street art scene but is now a recognized artist. He is perfect for this project because he combines the raw and gritty with the modern and detailed. He uses strong, funky colors that stand out in the streetscape.

The artwork is curated by Jens-Peter Brask.

Martha Hviid creates large installations, medium-sized sculptures, small manageable objects, drawings, texts, and sometimes works that can be listened to or smelled. Her practice explores how humans sense, feel, interpret, and interact with the world around us—based on our psychological, neurological, physiological, and relational conditions, and how we consciously and unconsciously communicate these with one another.

The project is curated by Jens-Peter Brask and has received support from the Sundby Områdefornyelse's cultural funding pool, "Culture that Connects."

The French-born artist works primarily with painting in his practice. In his works, Bigaignon combines colorful motifs and colors, aiming to explore painting's ability to appear both figurative and abstract simultaneously.

Bigaignon creates poetic narratives through his artworks, forming unique universes with the use of magical elements.

The project is curated by Jens-Peter Brask, who has received support from the Sundby area's cultural funding pool, "Kultur der forbinder" (Culture that Connects).

At the old police station, local artist Henrik Soten has adorned the gable, shed, and fence with his artwork. The project is curated by Jens-Peter Brask.

In 2018, a dark tunnel under Peder Lykkes Vej was transformed into the Sunshine Tunnel. Around 300 children from the surrounding kindergartens, several classes from Peder Lykke School, the elderly from Peder Lykke Center, and art groups from Børnekulturhus Ama’r collaborated with visual artist Maria Lau Krogh to create over 300 panels, which are now beautifully mounted in life-affirming mosaics in the tunnel. The result is a bright, warm, and aesthetic art experience, with triangles and prismatic patterns symbolizing the reflections of the sun's rays.

The project is a collaboration between the City of Copenhagen's Technical and Environmental Administration, Peder Lykke School and nearby kindergartens, Børnekulturhus Ama’r, the Children's Culture Pilots, the Amager Plan, Sundby Urban Renewal, and visual artist Maria Lau Krogh.

Based on their own childhood memories filled with imagination and play at Bredegrund playground, Bandit Graphics has created an adventurous artwork featuring beautiful landscapes and fantastical characters.

The formerly gray staff building at the playground stood out starkly against the playful atmosphere of the playground. Therefore, the staff group, in collaboration with Bandit Graphics, took the initiative to upgrade the gray facade with a colorful and imaginative mural that matches the playground's whimsical world. Now, both children and adults at the playground can dream away in a dinosaur landscape blending with the twisted branches and roots of the forest floor.

The imaginative and colorful, deliberately naive decoration is embedded in a white wall at the children's institution. It consists of five flowers, a large bird, and a sun.

Eske Kath graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen in 2003 and works with painting, sculpture, and installations. In recent years, his distinctive and colorful landscape paintings have particularly gained recognition.

Andreas Welin has decorated a wall at Sundby Sports Park with the artwork 'Exercise'.

The project was organized by Rodløs and supported by the Sundby area's cultural funding pool, "Kultur der forbinder" (Culture that Connects).

In 2018, Amager Bio and Tuborgfondet collaborated to create an artwork that brings the liveliness and intensity of the music experience at Amager Bio into the cityscape: It blows you away and lifts you up, anchored to the joy of life and music – much like in a concert hall.

The artwork was selected through an open call by a jury consisting of music and art experts from Tuborgfondet, Amager Bio, and external professionals. More than 200 artists from both Denmark and abroad participated.

The artwork is supported by Tuborgfondet.

On a large gable, King Christian IV gazes out over Amager, accompanied by the colorful presence of the Øresund Bridge and Amager Beach.

"He was tasked with interpreting a drawing made by the grandchild of the building's owner. To make people stop and wonder a bit, a portrait of King Christian IV was added with a very special expression," writes AmagerLiv.

The motifs reflect back on the neighborhood's past as a village, later evolving into small-scale industry, and eventually becoming a modern residential area. Throughout these transformations, people have lived and worked under various conditions, and some of these figures are depicted in the murals.

The murals were supported by the Neighborhood Improvement Project in the Sundholm Quarter in 2012.

The old factory at Raffinaderivej 22, now known as The Plant, was built by A.P. Møller Mærsk in 1962. The factory has been transformed into an event venue.

The artwork at this location is created by Victor Ash, known for his distinctive style also recognized at Refshaleøen, where another one of his works adorns one of the old halls.

The project is curated by Jens-Peter Brask.

Kofoeds Skole has a lot of fine art both indoors and outdoors. This work originated from a workshop conducted by HuskMitNavn in 2013. During the workshop, students from Kofoeds Skole painted part of the motifs, while HuskMitNavn painted the rest and added colors.

HuskMitNavn started with graffiti in the 2000s and in recent years has become known for his playful expression.

Peter Birk is a self-taught artist. He is a former graffiti artist and the founder and owner of Gallery GRISK in Aarhus. Today, Peter Birk's art is experienced in galleries, museums, and notably on the facades and walls of cities.

Curator Jens-Peter Brask, who has also been involved in producing a number of other artworks in our neighborhood, has overseen the creation of this piece as well. The artwork itself is painted by the Finnish artist Tuukka Tammisaari.

Curator Jens-Peter Brask was responsible for producing the artwork and invited the American artist Jake Genovesi.

Jake Genovesi works in the realm between abstract and figurative painting, and the artwork on Norgesgade was his first mural.

On Englandsvej you will find a commercial mural for Skipper's Licorice pipes.

At Amager Lilleskole, it's Henrik Soten who has painted the former elevator tower at the school. The artwork is abstract but with some very fine shapes. Soten is an experienced gable painter and a local artist.

HuskMitNavn has created a work at the residence Holger Nielsens Ungdomsboliger, also known as 'Honolulu, Amager'. The house is one of Kofoeds Skole's 6 hostel offers and accommodates young people who have encountered serious social issues at a very young age, such as homelessness, substance abuse problems, mental disorders, and lack of connection to education or the job market.

'Honolulu, Amager' refers to the project initiated in 2013, supported by the A.P. Møller Foundation, aimed at renovating the somewhat deteriorated hostel where the gable mural was also created. This renovation was nominated for the Renovation Prize in 2014.

On the outer wall of the school at Amagerbro, you can see the beautiful artwork made by the students and teachers of Sønderbro School to commemorate the school's 25th anniversary in 1999.

The artwork features ceramic leaves arranged to depict a tree, symbolizing growth and creativity within the school community.

The impressive artwork by the artist Don John was completed in 2023. The gable mural stands nearly 20 meters tall, and according to the artist, the motif is open to interpretation by the many school children and other passersby.

Don John closely guards his identity, as his path to art began in street art, where invitations weren't always given. The artist's name is a reference to Shakespeare's character, the bastard Don John, who in some ways stands apart from the finer society.

Two Friends - Leif Sylvester

The beloved artist Leif Sylvester, who was born and raised in the Holmbladsgade neighborhood, has adorned Nordøstamager Skole with three magnificent sculptures.

Leif Sylvester says that these three works are some of the biggest he has created in his career as an artist.

"I am very happy to have been given the opportunity to create the decoration here at the school. I am from this neighborhood myself and am glad that this was possible at all, and that the kind of art that I represent has been allowed to stand out as much as it has here."

Wall Murals at Højdevangen Skole - Vilhelm Bjerke Petersen

At Højdevangen Skole in Amager, there are two wall murals by the artist Vilhelm Bjerke Petersen. He passed away at the age of only 47 but left a lasting impact through his paintings and the manifest-like texts about art that he diligently wrote. He created these two murals between 1932 and 1939 in collaboration with his then-wife, the artist Elsa Thoresen.

The artist Asger Jorn described Vilhelm Bjerke Petersen's contribution to Danish art as follows:

"In the beginning of the thirties, an artist completely turns Danish art life upside down, becomes the starting point for a new artistic trend, and then quietly disappears from the scene, celebrated abroad but a 'dead' man in his own country."

Over the years, the relief was commonly attributed to Kofoeds School's metal workshop. It wasn't until 2018 that it became clear it was made by the sculptor and painter Morten Nielsen (1920-1998). This was later verified through Weilbach's Artist Encyclopedia, where the artwork is mentioned. The relief is titled: It’s Good to Have a Group. With an Amager perspective, it’s interesting that Morten Nielsen also created the statue at Christmas Møllers Plads in memory of the freedom fighters of Amager – the fallen members of the Resistance Movement. A statue that many residents of Amager pass by daily on their way to the city center.

The granite sculptures are placed within the park, while the curbstones are located at each of the four entrances.

The work draws inspiration from the cemetery’s imagery but is tied to reflection rather than religion. The shapes of the sculptures can be found both in nature and across thousands of years of culture.

The quotes describe a way of relating to the world and invite contemplation. They were chosen based on suggestions submitted by the residents of Amager, with the most fitting ones being selected.

Quote 1: "Kæmp for alt, hvad du har kært" (Fight for everything you hold dear) is from Christian Richardt’s hymn “Altid frejdig, når du går”. It references the graves of the fallen resistance fighters at Sundby Cemetery.

Quote 2: “Skynd dig langsomt" (Make haste slowly) is an old Greek saying popularized by Emperor Augustus. It reminds us not to rush through life but to appreciate the passing of time.

Quote 3: “Mest af alt holder jeg af hverdagen" (Most of all, I love the everyday) by Dan Turèll highlights that life is about more than its high points. The slow pace, the changing seasons, and life’s rhythms also deserve celebration.

Quote 4: "Intet i livet skal frygtes, det skal blot forstås" (Nothing in life is to be feared; it is only to be understood) by scientist Marie Curie encourages us to face challenges with curiosity and openness.

The quotes are embedded in the pavement at the entrances, like welcome mats inviting visitors in. The lettering uses a typeface commonly seen on gravestones.

The sculptures are the same size and material as gravestones. In the Oasis of Reflection, they stand as pure forms, without inscriptions tied to any specific person, time, or religion.

The work has been supported by the Amager Øst Local Committee, Sundby Urban Renewal, and the City Beautification Project.

“Drengen med de snoede ben” is my fourth mural on Amager. All these murals have been made possible by a great deal of engagement by local communities. This is something I enjoy about Amager. Locals here are committed to create a better environment for everyone. During the process of raising funding for this mural, one initiative was to set up a popcorn stand on the street in order to collect donations for the painting. Another initiative was to create a “Welin-walk”. A map in which you can find all my paintings in Amager. Murals is art for everyone, and that’s what makes it meaningful.

The structure is self-supporting but collapses if a single element is removed.

Lighthouse is illuminated during the dark hours of the day and can be seen from a great distance.
