Go NES!!! Our school has made amazing growth since Mrs. Sutton has been at NES. She is preparing us to soar higher. I wonder if we can integrate more of the SS and Science content into the informational reading and writing to make sure we are meeting all of the AKS.

I'm so excited about the amazing growth we've made over the past few years. It's SO exciting to see us make such gains as a school community. I was also very excited to hear that whatever we're doing has been working and that none of our supports put in place by Mrs. Sutton or the county will be pulled, even though we are doing better. I would LOVE to see more support in terms of reading. I know we have ESOL support from the county; however, I know that it is nearly impossible to teach the AKS in the uppre grades if the students are still learning the language. How can we support these students who are still developing their English language skills? What are specific techniques we can use with these students that will ensure success?

Our in depth book studies, common mini lessons, assessments, anchor charts, mentor text and professional learning have moved us to focus on the AKS , students being taught and how to expand and grow our knowledge as professionals. We have support from our leaders, coaches, team members and parents. We work together collaboratively analyzing and digging deeper to ensure that we make our work rigorous and challenging for the students. I know we will make the top 20!!
I am VERY excited about our growth! It just proves that we are doing the right work. It also proves that every teacher her is working very hard to help our Eagles soar. Mrs. Sutton has made such a positive impact on not only us, but the students. Strong, passionate, caring leaders make all the difference and we have that!!

Highest Need
There needs to be a focus on reading comprehension and students being able to respond to text. This will carry over into every other subject and we will see our students rise even higher. Social Studies and Science need to be integrated as much as possible. I would love for us to have more resources/support in meeting students where they are and moving them. Guided reading is where we will get the bang for our buck so that could also be a great place to spend some time.

(BIG WIN!)

WSA and LSPI: I'm noticing that we'll need to help those 5th grade students with improving their Science/Social Studies scores. Maybe adding a rotation into Eagle Time especially since it can also include Literacy, which would help improve literacy scores as well.

Highest priorities/needs for our students: Focusing on reading comprehension and maybe some training/ideas on differentiation for guided reading groups from coaches/county. County tests are given on grade level but a good bit of our students are not on grade level when it comes to reading. Having some guidance for those students that are not on grade level but are expected to test on grade level would be helpful.

Small Win: Our school has made huge gains as evidenced with our BIG move in ranking. Since everything rises and falls on leadership, we must pause to salute our school leaders for being proactive, persistent, and passionate about action steps needed to improve our "needs improvement" label. You continually assessed and re-assessed our processes and made necessary adjustments where you saw fit. Thank you for always having your fingers on the pulse of what's going on in our school. CONGRATS!!!

WSA and LSPI: Although our students have made gains, there is still work to be done. Science and Social Studies content areas need to be integrated. We can look into finding leveled text on the topics each grade level studies and encourage teachers to use them during guided reading. Additionally, looking at the BOY F and P levels for K-2, a significant amout of our students are entering below grade level across those grades.
Noticings: only 3 students entering K are on a level A. All others students are (PRE); 1st Grade: roughly 39% are entering below level D and almost 60% of students entering 2nd are below level J. What can we do? Our school can use the resources we already have here in house. Imagine Learning is a resource that can be used for all students. In K-2 those students experienceing difficulties with literacy can use it. The suggested amount of minutes is 100 per week to show significant growth. Classworks is also a great tool. It has an Individualized Learning Path and Integrated Reading for students.
Highest Priorities/Needs: Literacy...our instruction should include the BIG 5: Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Vocabulary, Fluency, and Comprehension.
