Assalamualaikum and good day. My name is Nurhaslina binti Arifin. I am 24 years old and my hometown is Tawau, Sabah. I am student from Universiti Utara Malaysia (Nothern University of Malaysia). My major is Bachelor's Degree of Hospitality Management. This year was my final semester, which is semester 8 and only contains our practicum activities.

(JUNE) WEEK 1 (1/6/2024-8/6/2024)

The first day at the Housekeeping Department started with a self-introduction session in front of the Head of the Department, Mr. Ashraf. we start work as early as 9 am until 5 pm.
In my first day at the housekeeping, I need to go to floor 6 to cleaning the toilets as my first job. The floor maid show the steps one by one how to cleaning the toilets properly. starting with, collect all the rubbish, wash cups, wash toilet bowls and sinks. As a trainee, we need to learn how to cleaning toilets after that, they will teach us to do the bedding.
Each floor has 22 rooms in total. It has certain categories. Room number 02-18, 20 and 22 is called DSV and STV. Meanwhile room number 19 and 21 is called premier suite with the different range of price.
- DSV=Deluxe Sea View
- STV=Superior Town View
- PRS=Premier Suite
The procedure of cleaning the toilets must using the multi-purpose chemical. It can be use on toilet bowls, sinks and bathroom wall as well. To cleaning the mirror like dressing mirror, sliding door and toilet mirror must use the chemical called vision. Vision has a strong smell and make sure not to use too much.
Then, use yellow or pink floor perfume. It will make the toilet floor smells nice and fragrant as well.
For the room linen, each room need to put 2 bath towel, 2 hand towel and 1 bath mate. Except floor 3 because hand towel will be replace with face towel.

WEEK 2 (9/6/24-15/6/24)

For the first week of July, I was assigned to work in the afternoon to help the floor maid. For the evening shift, the task to be done is to count the linen for all floors. Linen will usually be picked up at 3pm.
All the linen must be separate following the types which is, bath towel, bath mate, hand towel, face towel, duvet cover single/queen/king also bedsheet for single/queen/king. Not only that, pool towel and other linen like bed runner and insert need to be count separate also.
After that, all the linen must be count. after the counting, need to write at the bill so the laundry will know the total of the linens that will be washed and sent for the next day.
Other tasks that evening shift need to do is, send request for guest. The request coming from guest that make a call from front office. And they will inform by using the walkie-talkie. After that, staff in charge will immediately go to the guests room and send the request as soon as possible because it's not good if the guests waiting too long.
If working at evening shift, if the guest want extra bed, blanket or pillow it has their own price so if the guest want to pay by charge to the room it will deduct from their deposit or if they want to pay directly by cash, the deposit will remain.
- Extra Bed: RM100 (With breakfast), RM80 (Without breakfast)
- Pillow, Bath towel and blanket: RM10/each.

WEEK 3 (16/6/24-22/6/24)

On week 3 of June, I also do the same tasks as usual. For example, cleaning toilets. The procedure is still the same and need to be followed one by one. The amenities need to arrange properly. Except premier suite and executive room it has their own arrangement.
Besides cleaning the toilet, I will also help in vacuuming each room. Rooms must be vacuumed everywhere including balconies and toilets. It is because sometimes the balconies have some rubbish from previous guest who stay at the rooms. S, it need to double check when cleaning room.
On week 3, I also do extra tasks if I finish cleaning the room early. that is, learning to make the bed (bedding). The procedure for bedding is, folding the bedsheet and duvet according to the fold of the envelope.

WEEK 4 (23/6/24-30/6/24)

On week 4 of June, I also do the same tasks as usual. For example, cleaning toilets. The procedure is still the same and need to be followed one by one.
Besides cleaning the toilet, I will also help in vacuuming each room. Rooms must be vacuumed everywhere including balconies and toilets. It is because sometimes the balconies have some rubbish from previous guest who stay at the rooms. S, it need to double check when cleaning room.
In addition, all shelves and cupboards in each room should be wiped clean because dust will fly and stick there.

On week 2 of July, I got morning shift aa usual and do the same tasks as usual. For example, cleaning toilets. The procedure is still the same and need to be followed one by one.
On this month, occupancy rate is quite high because there will be so many events held at Adya Hotel. Also there was a group coming to check in and then need to prepare a room for them to stay. So, I got before and after with different floor. I need to assist maid floor by two times in the morning and also afternoon

WEEK 3 (17/7/24-24/7/24)

I was assist at floor 8 and then for to floor 9 and back to floor 8 again to do my job.

On my last week of July, I got morning shift as usual and do the same tasks as usual. For example, cleaning toilets. The procedure is still the same and need to be followed one by one.
In my last week in housekeeping, I did a lot of occupied rooms at that time. But before starting work, every morning must wipe the floor in front of the guest lift. it is a mandatory routine every morning. This is done to ensure that guests feel comfortable and not disturbed by unpleasant odors when going out or going up the elevator. So it must be kept clean.
