These lectures contain profound descriptions of the experience of the year in four Cosmic Imaginations. The activities of four mighty Archangels are described: Michael in autumn at Michaelmas, Gabriel in winter at Christmas, Raphael in spring at Easter, and Uriel in summer at St. John's Tide. These Imaginations provide material for endless meditative study. Included are 5 color plates of Steiner's blackboard drawings.

These five lectures were given by Rudolf Steiner at Dornach in October of 1923. The are from the lecture series entitled, The Close Experiencing of the Running of the Year in Four Cosmic Immaginations published in German as, Das Miterleben des Jahreslaufes in Vier Kosmischen Imaginationen.

https://wn.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA229/English/RSP1968/ForSea_index.html

These lectures focus on the four Christian festival seasons, elaborating on the complementary nature of Christmas with Midsummer and Easter with Michaelmas. The esoteric realities behind the festivals are discussed in relation to sub-earthly and super-earthly powers, the equinoxes, the ancient Mysteries, Michael's activity, morality, and the musical-poetic and visual arts. This volume along with Michaelmas and the Soul-Forces of Man completes the entire German volume GA 223.

In the collected edition of Rudolf Steiner's works, the volume containing the German texts is entitled Der Jahreskreislauf als Atmungsvorgang der Erde und die vier grossen Festeszeiten.

https://wn.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA223/English/AP1984/CyYear_index.html

“There is nothing more important for life, than the strong and sure realization of communion with the spiritual world. If modern humans had not lost their relationship with spiritual things to such an extent, these grave times would not have come upon us.

Only a very few today have insight into this connection, although it will certainly be recognized in the future. Today people think: When a human being has passed through the gate of death, their activity ceases as far as the physical world is concerned. But indeed it is not so! There is a living and perpetual association between the so called Dead and the so-called Living. Those who have passed through the gate of death have not ceased to be present; it is only that our eyes have ceased to see them. They are there in very truth. Our thoughts, our feelings, our impulses of will, are all concerned with the Dead.

We should not seek for the Dead through externalities but become conscious that they are always present. All historical life, all social life, all ethical life, proceed by virtue of co-operation between the so-called Living and the so-called Dead.

The whole being of man can be infinitely strengthened when he is conscious not only of his firm stand here in the physical world, but is filled with the inner realization of being able to say of the Dead whom he has loved: They are with us, they are in our midst.” ~ Rudolf Steiner – GA 182 – The Dead Are With Us – Nuremburg, 10th February 1918

Just wanted to share this because it led to an insight (and some giggles).
Because I was never “skilled” at the visual arts, could never make the image in my mind’s eye appear on paper or canvas, I was for years limited to wordsmithing for my mode of expression.
Today, making chunky angels with questionable limbs caused a significant recognition ~ when I HAVE allowed myself to engage with art supplies, I see my hesitation and frustration melt away when I let myself get childlike… to play in the colors and textures just for the experience and not to create some ideal thing. In fact, some of the most rewarding moments have been in finding a new way when something goes “wrong”.
Today when this “angelic mishap” confronted me I was reminded of a young relative at Christmas time years ago, when it was discovered that the gingerbread house kit the kids were building was in fact missing the decorative candy that was shown on the box. Two kids were crestfallen and one fell to sulking, while Casper positively LIT UP and started skipping around, singing, “we get to use our imaginations!”.
This memory, evoked by the combination of hand-work and our discussion of the so-called dead, has given me a new place to stand in myself as I approach an art-based inquiry into a fraught situation- and it feels like a significant “seed” to plant at exactly this time of year. Thank you Hazel and Nancy, more than I can say!

Don't know where to put this question, but wonder if anyone is aware of Steve Taylor. He is quite popular and has a new book "Spiritual Science & The Fall" (among others in the genre of his 'new' idea of spiritual science). I emailed him after listening to a talk to see if he was aware of Steiner's work since he failed to mention him. He said he was, vaguely, but that it wasn't really applicable.(?)

Hazel’s comment reminded me I’d forgotten to share this one too…
While their arms are no longer coming from their waists, they still do not appear to me as angels, and~ honestly art gone wrong is my new favorite medium. If nothing else it gives me lots of material for the 6BE of Positivity… but there is SO much more. I’ve been making myself engage with art supplies regularly now for a week or so. Churned out lots of really unattractive “pictures”, and then suddenly something evocative occurs and I’m looking at something that has a “feel” to it. It’s like how writers commit to 8 pages of nonsense to prime the pump for what really wants to come. I’m on the verge of a precipice where something significant is about to happen because this door has opened. Thanks to Nancy for bringing the art elements, to Hazel for reflecting me, and the group for holding a space for us all to grow into this rich time of year.

Started in China. A day to celebrate being single. Single people splurge on themselves today. They treat themselves to nice dinners and other shopping treats. It's the biggest shopping day in the world! More than Black Friday! Wow! I'm happily single, so maybe I'll treat myself to something delicious today :-)

It comes from my Shape Note Singing group (Sacred Harp), which is "Four-Part Christian Harmony." We sing everything a cappella and pitch it to the singers present. (It's all sight reading...)

"It's a mighty rocky road, I'm almost done traveling, A mighty rocky road, I'm almost done traveling, A mighty rocky road, I'm almost done traveling, I'm bound to go where Jesus is."

Even stronger and adjustable is to wrap ribbon around and between each flower, keeping the length open at each end and fastening ribbon with a simple knot. Use 1 yard of ribbon or more. Now the crown is adjustable and the long ribbons hang down the back. A simple and strong greenery crown can be made for Morris dancers.
