This is Chapter one so far, tell me what you think.

¨Wherever could it be? I remember I left it near here somewhere!¨

I scoured the living room, scanning the sofa, behind the television, and checking the coffee table for my lone pencil when I heard Violet shuffling about upstairs.

Floating up the stairs as inaudibly as possible, then propelling into the upstairs office room. My sister Violet is working. Her blonde hair whirls around as the fan gyrations. She doesn't need makeup, she so attractive, and she wears a gray shirt and white pants. I never see her not in her bedroom, office, or in the kitchen, and if I didn't remind her to devour her food, she would expire.

I observe Violet pacing the office, unmistakably seeking to get an idea for her book, The Sailboat. It’s a novel about a teenager, who sails away into a separate continent, with just a sailboat. It’s actually a moderately enjoyable book so far.

¨Hi Lucy. What are you going to draw this time? Iḿ guessing that you want a piece of paper, don't you?¨Vi stated.

¨Hola Vi. Si I do need a piece of paper. I think Iĺl draw a girl eating a cupcake, with a dog begging for it.¨

¨Interesting. Well, I need to get back to work if I want to get this book published. Bye Lucy,¨ she said this as she shouldered me out the door.

¨Adios,¨ I shouted

I seized my pencil and proceeded off to my room. All of my drawings greeted me, as I sealed the door behind me. My room is overwhelming. The walls are sky-blue, the rug is golden, and my bed is green. Paintings dangle on the walls. I extract my chair and draw promptly. In the following five minutes, I have an image of a dog pulsating up and down, while the girl nibbles on the cupcake.

The dog is moving, and so is the girl. I have an extraordinary talent for drawing things. In fact, I couldn't go to school because of my sketches. That is why Iḿ home schooled. Nobody but me and Vi know. My parents know too. But they neglected me after they comprehended that.

I make the girl have blonde billowing hair, like my sister. The dog is a Yorkie, one of my preferred dogs. Just after my favorite Labrador.

It's practically time for dinner. I skip out to grab Violet, but she's so caught up in her book. I decided to make dinner for her. I understand it's no use to try and get her, or she will scream at me. I clutch the pizza from the fridge, and I unlock the box. I turn on the furnace and I wait for the thing to beep.

¨Gambit! Get away from the food! Heel boy, heel! Did you wanna treat?¨

Gambit is my dog, a black Labrador my support dog, and he exclusively has three legs. His ears are ripped, and his tail is about 2 feet long. He’s really, messed up. That's what my parents said.

That's also why I choose him. Heś different. Like me, nobody wanted him. Gambit wags his tail as if saying, ´oh yes, please. I have been a good boy.´

¨Fine,¨ I susurrate. ¨Here's two. You've been a good boy.¨

Gambit greedily gnawed the treats, and I jumped up. The oven had gone off. I shoved the pizza into the thing, and I remained standing. I knew I had 20 minutes, so I went up to see Vi. She was buried in her book, nearly finished.

¨VI! I'm making pizza. Do you want any?¨

¨Shut UP! Go away!¨ Vi interrupted.

¨I thought you might want some pizza.¨

¨Oh no. Lucy. Come back! LUCY!¨

I race and seize the pizza. It’s remarkably cold, but I don’t want to burn down the house. Then I leave Gambit to consume his treats. I don’t ever want to come back. Not when my family doesn't want me. I have nowhere to go, so I escape to Lake James State. I can’t climb trees, so I get inside a shrub.

“Lucy?” I hear.

I know its Violet, but I don't want to come out to find her. I know she’s worried, but I sojourn in the bush. I can tell Violet is sobbing, but she deserves it. Her book is always more important than me and Gambit.

“Lucy…come back. Please. I miss you.”

I can’t take it anymore, so I dispersed from the bushes. Violet is gone. She vanished from my view. I have no idea where I am, so I study my surroundings, and I see the lake. Lake Saint James. I find my paddle board and hop in, making it rock.

The sky is a dark grey, the trees rising up to the top of clouds. It starts to rain, making the ground fresh with mud, and making nearly impossible to. I start out in a hot pursuit for the opposite side of the lake.

I can tell the thunderstorm is about to get severe, because the sky just turned black. The rain pounds on the water, and I topple on the board, making my nose bleed. I can’t see anything, but precipitous black.

In about one second, I was in the water, struggling for my life. I was never taught to swim. I hate that about my life. I sink to the bottom, knowing I could die in about 10 seconds. I hold my paddle, pulling the thing towards me, and repeat it.

¨Help! I… I can't swim!¨ I shriek, desperately, hoping someone will hear my cry for help.

The wind sways the trees overwhelmingly. Water pounds on my head. I go back beneath and try once more. I come up, and I can't breathe. I drift to the shore, and can't talk, see, or move. I can only hear. I hear the siren of an ambulance, and police car. I can't hold on any longer, so I let go.

*

When I wake up, Iḿ hooked up to a machine that I have never even noticed before. Violet is there, with Gambit. Heś sitting next to me, his tail wagging violently, and Violet is talking quietly with two doctors. They walk out of the room, and Gambit doesn't follow her when she calls.

¨Gambit?” I whispered. ¨Come here boy.¨

Violet saw me awake, and glided over to my bed, tears streaming down her face.

¨Do you realize what just happened? You could have died, and this cost me about $5,000. I can't believe how… stupid you are!¨

She stalked out of the room, making me feel confined.

My parents come into the Infirmary room. They neglect me and reward Violet with attention. Violet lets them give her their love.

¨My poor baby.¨ My mama says. ¨I can't believe that the malevolent beast of a child did this to our family. You don't deserve this hon.¨

¨Oh my god. We should have just exterminated her. I knew she was a vexation. You know you can just come home with us. Leave the girl with the dog.”

I didn’t want to hear anything more, so I go to sleep.
*

When I wake up, I'm in my room. I go downstairs and see Violet. She is sitting on the couch, crying with Gambit. He doesn't know what’s going on, so he cuddles with Vi.

She buries her face in Gambits fur. Gambit howls, feeling Violets pain. I open the door and walk in.

¨Vi? It's me,¨ I murmured.

I didn't need to talk any louder. I know that she heard me.

“ Oh, Lucy! Don’t you ever leave like that again,” She sobbed. “ I can’t afford to lose you anymore. You know I wouldn’t survive without you, Lulu.”

I go to the pantry and take the Gatorade and Doritos. I love the spicy taste of the chips. Sprinting past Vi, I go up the stairs and slam the door to my room. I want to draw another picture, so I grab a pencil and paper, and I draw rapidly.

I picked a boy to draw. When I’m finished, I see him waving at me. I wave back to him. His name is Mason, I decide.

Mason portrays writing, so I draw a pencil, and Mason picks it up. None of my drawings have ever done that before. I also draw a piece of paper. Mason grabs it and starts to write.

‘What is your name.’

‘Lucy’ I record.

He scribbles, ‘ I want to get to know you better, Lucy.’

OK. That’s kind of shocking. I write everything about myself.

‘My name is Senorita Lucia, but everybody calls me Lucy. I’m part Spanish, and Gambit is my dog, a black Labrador and he only has three legs.’

‘That's cool. My name is Mason, I have no friends, and I like to play with my imagination. ¨

OK. This guy is creepy. He obviously needs to go to a mental hospital. But, I want to learn more about him.

‘Lucy, do remember me? It was so long ago. But I’m split between your room and the attic. Wait. I’m being moved. It is a blonde haired girl, and she looks like you.’

I sip some of my Gatorade and put it back on the desk. Munching on my chips, I write, ‘ That's my sis.’

‘She’s taking me somewhere, and is muttering, “Lucy” under her breath.’

I get a knock on my door, and Violet marches in.

“Here. This is your old picture of a friend you used to have. Mason, I think his name was.”

He waves to me and is also waving in the other picture. Suddenly, Violet freezes in mid-sentence, leaving me dumbfounded.

“Violet? Vi? Can you hear me? VI? Please don’t let this happen again!

I run down the stairs, to find Gambit in mid-leap off the couch. His tail is frozen in time, his eyes, glassy and white. I want to scream to Vi for help, but I can’t.

My legs are like jelly, and I collapse onto the couch. The room starts to spin, making me feel like I just threw up.

I feel a cold breeze go over my bones. I think my soul just left my body. I see myself, and I look like a car crash. I fly up the stairs, hovering in mid-air. I pass Vi’s room, the light still on.

I wonder if the electric bill is gonna blow up? I think. I mean, if everything is frozen in time, what about our money? Are we gonna lose it all?

I enter my room and explode toward my picture. Mason is mid-wave. I feel a wave of radioactivity goes over me, as I’m whirl pooled into something, terrorized. I close my eyes and hope I’m alive.

I’m laying on my side, curled up in a ball. I gradually flex my fingers into a fist, satisfied that I wasn’t dead. My eyes open and I see to feet.

Turning over, I stand up and feel something, or rather someone touches my shoulder. Spinning around, I slap them in the face.

“OW! I never knew you were so rough.” says a person.

I glow, knowing I probably looked moderately stupid. I look up, and I’m looking at the beaming face of someone in particular.

“Mason?” I shout baffled.

“Um, yeah that's me. Is there a problem?”

“Yeah, there's a problem. I have no idea where I am, how I got here, or why I’m arguing to you! “

Ouch. By the way, Mason’s face looks, I really hurt him. I don’t know what to say though. I’m never around other kids.

“Quick question,” I ask. Where am I?’

“You’re in the paper”
