My word for this year is "yes." I tend to get in the habit of feeling the need to control ALL THE THINGS, ALL THE TIME.... Maybe some of you can relate. I want to do a better job of telling my students "yes, you can try it that way." Or "yes, I'll consider that idea," and not feel like my ideas are always what are best- they bring lots to the table as well. Not that I'm afraid to say no, but that I don't want to just say no for the sake of saying no. - Melissa W

I want my lessons and assignments to be purposeful (of course), but I especially want to strive to be purposeful in my relationships with my students and co-workers. I want to really strive to have DEEP, purposeful relationships with each and every student...not only because they are my students for the year, but because each of them has a purpose. I want to be a stepping stone in helping them reach that purpose. - Sarah

I tend to say "I'm sorry" a lot, and I need to break this habit! Since it's my second year, I already feel more confident; but, I want to do a better job of trusting in myself and the decisions I make.

My word for this year is advocate (support). I want to advocate for the students who are in our small intervention groups to provide the support students need to reach their academic goals. Not only do I want to support them academically but help students gain confidence in subjects that they may struggle in. Often the students we pull for Academic Assistance not only need help in math or reading, but they need someone who is there for them and is willing to cheer them on! I want to be student's biggest cheerleader!!

When I think of the word invest, I imagine that it is someone who is "all-in" to the purpose at hand. My purpose at PVES is to be "all-in" for our students who have special needs. For me, this commitment is not simply one year, but most often, all three years while in our school. Just as a classroom teacher, I am a counselor, parent, and cheerleader for my students, pouring all I have into them each day. This year, I plan to invest in the lives of students and strive to help them find success.

--Mrs. Melissa Freeman

My focus this year is to really put my students and their needs before all of the "extra stuff", and I want all of my decisions and actions to reflect that. My desire is that by being "loud" our classroom community, school community, and Powdersville community will be affected in a positive way.

-Jill Kallin
