My word for this year is "yes." I tend to get in the habit of feeling the need to control ALL THE THINGS, ALL THE TIME.... Maybe some of you can relate. I want to do a better job of telling my students "yes, you can try it that way." Or "yes, I'll consider that idea," and not feel like my ideas are always what are best- they bring lots to the table as well. Not that I'm afraid to say no, but that I don't want to just say no for the sake of saying no. - Melissa W

My word is "connect". Since I am now self-contained, I want to make sure I stay connected to my co-workers and do not isolate myself from friends (which I sometimes tend to do).

Purposeful

My word is "purposeful". My goal for this year is to be purposeful in all that I do. I want my lessons and assignments to be purposeful (of course), but I especially want to strive to be purposeful in my relationships with my students and co-workers. I want to really strive to have DEEP, purposeful relationships with each and every student...not only because they are my students for the year, but because each of them has a purpose. I want to be a stepping stone in helping them reach that purpose. - Sarah

My word for this year is "confident." I tend to say "I'm sorry" a lot, and I need to break this habit! Since it's my second year, I already feel more confident; but, I want to do a better job of trusting in myself and the decisions I make. My goal is to be more confident with parents, planning, classroom management, and sharing my ideas with others. -Hannah 😊

I chose "embrace" because it's a word that encompasses change in a positive light. Change in partners, change in schedules, change in content-I told myself I would be dedicated to trying to embody this word this year. If you saw my Facebook post from Tuesday, then you saw that my word has already helped me through a tough day!

My word for this year is encouragement because I want to work towards being more encouraging to my students, fellow teachers, friends, and family. Change is good and exciting, but it can also be hard. During a year with many changes, I want to try to offer more encouragement to others.

My word adapting fits my school year and my family life. I am adapting to one child being married and one child starting college. At school, I am adapting to teaching new subjects. I chose this word because I tend to get wrapped up in what I need to get done or what I still need to do, rather than always just being 100% completely present in the moment. This year I want to work on being completely present in the moment for my kids and staff and giving my full attention to them, rather than the deadlines and to do list.

My word for this year is advocate (support). I want to advocate for the students who are in our small intervention groups to provide the support students need to reach their academic goals. Not only do I want to support them academically but help students gain confidence in subjects that they may struggle in. Often the students we pull for Academic Assistance not only need help in math or reading, but they need someone who is there for them and is willing to cheer them on! I want to be student's biggest cheerleader!!

When I think of the word invest, I imagine that it is someone who is "all-in" to the purpose at hand. My purpose at PVES is to be "all-in" for our students who have special needs. For me, this commitment is not simply one year, but most often, all three years while in our school. Just as a classroom teacher, I am a counselor, parent, and cheerleader for my students, pouring all I have into them each day. This year, I plan to invest in the lives of students and strive to help them find success.

My word is loud not because I want to sound louder or be heard through my classroom walls and door, but because I want every action of mine to be "heard" throughout our school and community. My focus this year is to really put my students and their needs before all of the "extra stuff", and I want all of my decisions and actions to reflect that. My desire is that by being "loud" our classroom community, school community, and Powdersville community will be affected in a positive way.
