While making the toile for the waistcoat, I did get a bit lost, though, as I didn’t understand why we were sewing it inside out. I was also scared I would sew it incorrectly. Luckily, this wasn’t the case, and surprisingly, it came out very well with no issues.

Meeting my client was fun, and I really got to understand her vision for the character and what she wanted from the costume. I found this reassuring as we were on the same page when talking about it. Measuring her was easy because she was patient and easy to work with.

When it came to actually making the real thing, I did some research on different denim designers in the fashion industry. While doing this, I became really drawn to the idea of patchwork for my waistcoat and really wanted to implement it. However, this was very time-consuming, and I found it hard to source so much denim. Luckily, I found cheap jeans in charity shops that I used.

I thought of giving up many times while making the patchwork base, as it was so draining, especially when pinning everything together. The sewing was even worse because it was so big. But in the end, I found it totally worth it as it looked amazing, and I received a lot of compliments from my peers on the patchwork. They also appreciated how long it took. I was also happy to see how pleased my teachers were with it.

I thought the hard part was done, but then I had my final challenge: making the top piece of the waistcoat. Initially, I was going to scrap the idea altogether, but my teacher had an idea for it, and I decided to try it. It turned out well in the end, but I feel I could have done better, as it was a bit messy and not as well put together when it came to sewing the top piece. However, I realized that I was focusing too much on the flaws, as my client loved it!

Overall, it was a tiring experience, but it has enhanced my problem-solving and sewing skills to the next level. However, I do want to improve my pattern-making skills in the future so I can plan my ideas more effectively and modify them with a clearer understanding.

I hope to get some feedback on how to improve these skills so I can do better in the future. I did some research on influencers and fashion brands and how they market their clothes, which inspired me, but I just couldn't seem to figure out how to do it myself. I definitely need my peers to show me a few tricks to improve.

The client photos are amazing, though, so I wish I had stuck with my original idea of using her photos with some music in a slideshow, but I had run out of time, so I had to stick with what I made, which is disappointing. Overall, I just need to plan my time better and put more effort into it next time to really make it pop.
