S.M.A.R.T GOALS

Specific: This year I only had 3 things in my mind and that is to be able to get a term grade of B+ or higher, master the basics, and to fully understand grade 10 math. As you may all know this term is really important as it will be the one of the grades you will be showing to your application in SHS. And I really want to cross the border of JHS to SHS although it will be challenging for me I will be willing to sacrifice my time to study for it. Not only that I also took in mind that I am grade 10 already and I am expected to know and master all the basics, yet I still forget some of them due to carelessness. Lastly, is to fully understand grade 10 math, I'm also aware that my current topics will be the topics I will be seeing the most in the future.

Measurable: I can measure these goals by constantly checking my performance in math. I can do this by comparing my previous grade and current grade. If I notice my grade going down, then I will be more aware/alert of my mistakes from that point on and so forth.

Achievable: These goals are achievable if I put determination and dedication to it. I believe that everyone can be just as smart with those 2 concepts. I can do this by fully focusing to my teacher's discussions and giving more time to study and prepare for my assessments.

Relevant: I find these goals important to myself as I don't want to have math as one of my weak subjects. Personally I see math as my most important subject in academics. And it's great knowing that you're a person whos good at doing math.

Time: I plan to finish these goals at the end of my school year. It's enough time for me to catch up on math topics and the timing is perfect as I will be going to SHS.

Conceptual Understanding

For this term I once again had a hard time understanding and answering word problems. Specially the word problems for quadratic functions. Not only that it is hard to understand what the problem is asking for, it's also hard to get the values you need. Previously in the long test 3 everyone had troubles trying to answer the word problem. I'm not sure if it's because we only discussed one word problem similar to it or we're just really that blind to understand. 2 ways I can comprehend word problems more is to thoroughly read the problem and familiarize myself with more word problems. A habit that I do almost every time is that I only read the word problem once or twice. I can tell myself that to understand it more is when you read more. I believe that with more experience you'll find word problems easier. With experience you will know how the word problems work and what it is asking for. I can get this by doing more word problems alone.

My misconception was not getting the idea of factoring to the two products of zero. I always wondered how they got the values inside. At first I thought it was just the values that when you multiply the answer should be the 3rd polynomial. But when I did that my classmates told me I'm wrong. Making me even more confused. I finally asked for help to my classmates. They made me realize that you need to find the values that multiply to the 3rd polynomial, and when you add them its suppose to be the 2nd polynomial. I saw that my classmates are always willing to explain the topic that you don't understand. That's also the reason why math is fun, you can reach out to others for help.

Even though I failed miserably on this quiz I consider it my best work for this term. It's the reason why I did better and got higher scores in the assessments after this. This quiz was my wake up call, it made me realize that I'm not doing anything in math but just relying to the topics I already know. And as you can see my "I already know" knowledge wasn't enough. So I tried my best to catch up and I can say that it paid off as I did get better grades after this quiz.

This activity was fun as I get to share it with my classmate. It was also challenging because we had our own ways of doing it. But in the end it's always important to also take note that good synergy will always give good output.
