It is made from sandstone and doesn’t have a keep. Instead, the rooms and chambers are built against the curtain walls.
It has towers in it corners and enhances a large moat. This is an additional layer of defense and makes the castle look a lot larger.

It was built in 1385 by Sir Edward, a former knight of Edward III, with the permission of Richard II, ostensibly to defend the area against French invasion during the hundred years war.
