Begin by describing the cause(s) and effect(s) you found in the paragraph(s) you chose. (2+ sentences)

Cause: Oral history (or narrative) has been almost totally replaced by mass media broadcast.

Effect: Therefore, broadcast communication has become such a fixture in the realms of economic decisions, political outcomes, and moral reasoning.

Connect those cause(s) and effect(s) to consumerism. How does it affect/relate to consumerism? (2+ sentences)

The desire/need for broadcast communication is so great that, even when the US was facing the height of its last temporary economic decline, the money spent on TV advertising was over $50 billion dollars. Broadcast communication has become one of the biggest forces in the consumerist society, as is shown through the amount of money spent on TV advertising targeting consumers.

Reflect on how the cause(s) and effect(s) of consumerism affect you. (2+ sentences)

The constant stream of advertising, whether on TV or on the computer, continually puts new, "improved" products on my radar trying to convince me that the product that I have is somehow faulty or dated. Because of the fact that ads can be personalized based on search history, I am usually easily convinced. The only thing keeping me from spending money on the things advertised is that I have no money to spend on them. And also, you can usually find a cheaper version on Ebay.

1. I found that in Lines 85-98 the narrative informed that researchers did a test on families. This test shows that children watch TV more frequently that their parents.

Cause: Children are more inclined to watch Tv alone in their bedrooms more frequently than their parents.
"Children are Slightly more likely than their Parents to watch TV alone."
"Children much more frequently watch TV in a bedroom."

Effect: This happens more frequently depending on how many TV sets are in the home. This is socially isolating to children "The socially isolating potential of TV appears higher among families that have more than one TV set in the home."

2. The Families overall desire for multiple TV's in many different rooms changes a childs enviroment. The child becomes more isolated watching a TV for hours on end with no human interaction this could lead to many different mental disorders.

3. The constant need of having a new TV as entertainment is affecting a childs life harshly. So it it better to only have atmost 2 different TVs but in open family rooms so children can indeed watch them but not as isolated.
