What we do in class is tell this story every day. This internalises the story, the language and the patterns in it.

We wrote and segmented some words (a dot for a single letter phoneme, a line for a two letter phoneme)

We sounded out the words, then we stuck the phonemes together like lego!

We also learned three hard words that don't follow phonetic rules he, she and the.

We draw boxes that contain a quantity - each hundred has a big box, each ten has a smaller box, and each unit is drawn on its own.

We were adding today, showing first a representation of tens and units, then adding the units together, then adding the tens.

if we remember 100 is 10 tens, this helps us make a complementary pair!.
