As an IT specialist, I am always coming across (or being asked about) new tools that will supposedly improve "everything." :-)
I love technology in the classroom, but I need to remind myself to Keep It Simple, Sister (KISS) and make sure that I fully understand how the tool works before incorporating it into the classroom. There's definitely an opportunity for experimentation, and learning from each other in the class with new tools, but introducing these tools can also create confusion and anxiety for some students.

It is certainly strange to what level our internet and accessibility and portability of technology has changed. I remember getting my first cell phone in 2004, sprint PCS - analog. With the art deco pull out antenna, it was a must have feature. I like being able to access my information anywhere anytime. I remember losing one of the most important documents of my life due to a computer failure and a lack of fore thought to back it up. Now, it doesn't matter if you lose a PC or get a new phone, the world has become more seamless. I would really like the ability to have a tablet with an interactive whiteboard and not have to use various thumb drives or hard drives to maintain my data for teaching. Sadly my environment dictates such archaic approaches. When I edit something, I have to change it in 3 different locations. Being able to edit or create one document and have it available regardless of device or progression of the class would be great!

Most students in the classroom are familiar and somewhat comfortable with locating information online. When I task them to research a topic and allow them freedome to find a video, article, or web page they find interesting, I see some amazing things. So amazing sometimes that I end up thinking to myself, "Hey, that's really clever. I may have to use that next year as part of my course curriculum." Students bring out so much information in terms of discovery and exploration that as an Instructor you would never think apparent. When a subject matter is new to them, giving them liberty through technology opens up the coursework to different visions and points-of-view from students you would have never expected. The fun part and challenge for you as the Instructor is to tailor it all together and take the gift of what is been given to you and weave it in a way to deliver on the lesson you intended. The exciting part is, sometimes you end up going in a completely different direction that you never expected.

I also like the capacity of online learning systems to simplify learning by putting communication/discussions/assignments/file uploads and other things in a single place.
