They (Brazilian Army) had expanded Brazil by invading modern day Uruguay. Thousands of troops were surrounded and was deported to Portugal. The Portuguese send reinforcement by sea because they had such a large navy. The Portuguese surrendered all their territory except Montevideo. They finally surrendered Montevideo and made peace in 1824. Pedro abdicated the thrown and traveled to Portugal to claim the thrown when his dad died.
