Dancing it's self was considered a sin in Puritan society, but even more so was conjuring. Things were not all they seemed. By the highlight of their evening one girl would run naked, one would drink the blood of a chicken, one would faint, and all would be caught by the village Reverend Parris, who's daughter happens to now suffer from an unexplainable unconsciousness. They do find it peculiar that the children are the only ones being affected by the "devil", but still don't hesitate to hang all those who deny witchcraft. The girls don't fail to put on a show. The scream, faint, and at one point even stab themselves to convince Salem they are being abused. So much so that it is possible they've convinced themselves. Witchery and demonic practices had seemed to be spreading through the colonies during this time. Villagers had heard stories, but never did they expect it to be found in their own home. So many lives were lost. Living such a traditional life style and then experiencing so much chaos can make it seem as if the world is ending or for the Puritan's that God was angry at them. Arthur Miller hints that there is no regret among in the girls. Pressure put on John and Elizabeth from Hawthorne, pressure on Abigail to come up with more convincing accusations, but most of all, pressure on the chest of Giles Cory. Giles was a Puritan common who was accused and refused to admit to witchery. He also refused the reveal the names of the villagers who would vogue for others, protecting them from harm. For this he was crushed to death my the weight of multiple rocks. The song is sarcastic but has more meaning than may come off. Abigail knows what she wants and she goes after it. She doesn't let life bring her down. Although malicious, she is also extremely strong. He explains he could never be with her after all shes done and that he shouldn't have been in the first place. John and his wife cried and had a long emotional moment, but you could tell the weight of the world was suddenly off his shoulders.
