Darius and Sohrab first meet due to his grandfather presenting them both. Sohrab is first seen fighting a hose in the lawn. "(grandfather) he is a good boy. Very nice. You should be friends with him.
I have never been told to befriend someone before. I glance back at Sohrab, who crinked up his eyes and shook his head. My ears burned." (pg. 92 book) The expression my ears burned is a personification, his ears did not actually burn but is a feeling of nervousness.

Darius and Sohrab still have long ways to go in their friendship. this is demonstrated on page 80 of the pdf. During the game there seems to have been a rivalry between Sohrab and someone named Ali-Reza who Darius thought was one of Sohrab's friends. As the game progressed things got more heated between Sohrab and Ali- Reza and eventually led to Soharb storming off. "Shorab shook his head, ran over to me and said "Good job, Darioush" before Sohrab ran off again"(pg 80 pdf) this tells us that there are still some rocky mountains to climb before Darius and Sohrab have complete trust in one another.

Although its a small action of kindness from Sohrab it means a lot for Daruis. "Do you have a kit? Sohrab held up his red nylon bag, the kind with drawing-strings that doubled as straps to make it into a sort of backpack. I shook my head. I had failed to anticipate the need for soccer football gear when I packed.
Its okey, I brought another one
You sure you dont mind ? Sharing, I mean
Sohrab squinted at me. Of course not. Come on. Lets go." (pg.103 book) This dialogue helps us understand the friendship of Sohrab with Darius. Sohrab wasent forced to bring another kit for Darius but he did it because of friendship and kindness. In the dialogue there is the tone that changes in Darius, at first he was exited to play, then he forgets his kit and is ashamed (ex) "I shook my head. I had failed to anticipate the need for soccer football gear when I packed." Sohrab, told Darius that he had an extra kit which made Daruis feel special and wanted.

This part was when Sohrab started telling Darius about how his dad ended up in jail and what happened. In this part we learn more about Sohrab and his dad. "My father is in jail... You saw in the news about the protests? Years ago. When there were elections. There were protests here in Yazd too. My dad was there. Not protesting. He was on the way to work... He is Bahá'í. Its not so good if you're arrested and you're Bahá'í". Pg 193-194. The Darius goes on to think "I never new that. I felt even more ashamed. Sohrab had been pretty much fatherless for years, but here I was complaining, about Stephen Kellner who, while imperfect, was certainly less terrifying than the Iranian government." Pg 194.
