         <description><![CDATA[<div>Building 1: Solar Panel HQ<br>Description: This building is used to give power to the rest of the farm. Such as: the irrigation system, home heating, etc. It is used to have a sustainable, eco-friendly farm.&nbsp;<br><br>Building 2: Insect Hotel<br>Description: This is where we keep the honeybees and the ladybugs that are used to keep pests in check and to pollinate the vegetation and crops.<br><br>Building 3: Silo Conglomerate<br>Description: The silo is used to store the grains, harvest, and supplies to maintain and tend the farm. The grains are useful to keep in stock to be able to maintain the animals, and the harvest is kept there temporarily before it is sent to the markets, with some space used to store materials to maintain the plants (ex: fertiliser).&nbsp;<br><br>Building 4: Greenhouse<br>Description: The greenhouse is used to create new plant hybrids that can sustain and defend against the changing climate, new diseases, and insects. It is also used to grow exotic plants.<br><br>Building 5: House &amp; Watermill<br>Description: These are the lodgings where the farmers stay, and where there is a source of backup alternative power, a watermill, to be able to supply water and how to keep the farm running.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Marsh is in area 7 as the crops that need water the most will be surrounding that area, and it can likely be repurposed to be "purified" and re-irrigate the plants allowing for a continuous cycle and possibly saving some water.<br>&nbsp;It is important to have a basin for farms to prevent soil erosion and storm-water runoff from tainting the plants and ruining the nutritious topsoil.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Alternative Energy</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>To keep Sundrizzle Plains sustainable alternative energy is an important aspect of our farm.&nbsp;<br><br>Solar Panels - are used to reduce and limit the amounts of greenhouse gases being produced during farming. These are helpful especially when trying to direct power toward remote locations. Furthermore, these help improve air quality as they do not use electricity generation from coal, natural gas, and oil power plants, which can reduce air pollutants that emit from them.<br><br>Watermills - use hydropower which is pollution-free as it relies on the water cycle, which is driven by the sun, making it renewable. The watermills will also be used to redirect water to irrigate the farm, which will then drain into the basin and then be 'purified' and redirected into the river to continue the cycle repeatedly.</div><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>The seven areas of land of Sundrizzle Plains</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Area 1: George Orwell's Animal Farm<br>Description: This building is where the cows and chickens are kept and allowed to graze and where we get the fertilizer from (the animals and manure). The manure allows us to make organic nitrogen fertilizer that strengthens the soil throughout the farm.&nbsp;<br><br>Area 2: Cornfields<br>Description: The corn supplies grain that feeds the animals and allows us to keep the farm organic-fed. We employ organic farming techniques such as drip irrigation, natural pesticides, crop rotation, nitrogen fertilizer, and cover crops during the non-farming seasons.&nbsp;<br><br>Area 3: Cauliflower &amp; Rhubarb Field<br>Description: The cauliflower is grown for profit only, but the rhubarb is used to create the natural pesticide used on all the crops. We negate the harmful long term effects a heavy feeding crop that cauliflower can have by utilizing crop rotation. We use drip irrigation, natural pesticides, nitrogen fertilizer, and cover crops during the off-season in this plot as well.&nbsp;<br><br>Area 4: Hops Field<br>Description: 2/3 of the hops are used for commercial purposes, and the remaining 1/3 or any excess over the expected yield is made into mulch. This plot utilizes drip irrigation, natural pesticides, nitrogen fertilizer, crop rotation, and cover crops, that alongside the mulch go into strengthening the soil.&nbsp;<br><br>Area 5: Tomatoe Garden<br>Description: The tomatoes all go into commercial purposes. In this plot we also use drip irrigation, natural pesticides, nitrogen fertilizer, crop rotation, and cover crops to protect and nurture the soil.&nbsp;<br><br>Area 6: Grapes Vineyard<br>Description: The grapes are also farmed for commercial means. Like all the other plots, this plot utilizes drip irrigation, natural pesticides, nitrogen fertilizer, crop rotation, and cover crops to keep the soil healthy.<br><br>Area 7: Marsh (Detention Basin)<br>Description: It is used to prevent soil erosion and storm-water runoff from tainting the plants and ruining the nutritious topsoil. It is then "purified" and used to re-irrigate the plants allowing for a continuous cycle and saving some water.</div>]]></description>

         <title>How do we prevent soil erosion?</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Drip irrigation - Drip irrigation is the best way to maximize all of our available water. It helps limit weeds since drip irrigation is very specific in only watering crops and not any unnecessary plants. It prevents soil erosion because it provides a continuous flow of water, and the water is able to get all the way down the soil to the roots, also resulting in no water or soil runoff - a big contributor to soil erosion.&nbsp;<br><br>Crop rotation - Each year, each crop moves to the successive plot clockwise. When a crop stays in one plot for a number of years, the soil is drained of the same nutrients over and over, leading to erosion and low soil health. By rotating the crops and diversifying soil usage, the soils act as a more well rounded source of nutrients. This leads to an increased availability of nutrients in soil, reduced soil erosion, and increased soil biodiversity. Crop rotation has also been shown to increase crop yield.&nbsp;<br><br>Natural fertilizer - At Sundrizzle Plains to help our crops and the environment we use organic nitrogen fertilizer. Our nitrogen fertilizer is made from composted manure (which is also rich in organic forms of phosphorous), blood meal, bone meal (also rich in phosphorous) feather dust, and leather dust, because they are all organic material naturally high in nitrogen. Nitrogen fertilizer nurtures the soil, and also helps it recover from the eroding effects farming can cause. Our organic, natural nitrogen fertilizer is very cost effective and helps improve soil structure, aeration, water retention abilities, and healthy root development.&nbsp;<br><br>No chemical pesticides - Chemical pesticides are only a quick and cheap solution that can contaminate surrounding vegetation, bodies of water, and kill beneficial plants and insects as well as increasing soils disposition to erosion. To mitigate pests we use ladybugs, which eat other insects, and organic rhubarb pesticide made from chopped rhubarb leaves (sourced from our own organic rhubarb)&nbsp; that contain oxalic acid, a natural insect repellent.&nbsp;<br><br>Cover crops - Sundrizzle Plains uses sunflowers and hard red winter wheat as cover plants. Both of these plants are native to Kansas and have deep roots that keep top soil healthy, prevent top soil erosion, and help penetrate compacted subsoil. It also adds organic matter to the soil and prevents weeds. The crop from these plants will be used for compost and for food.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>
