The book is rich with illustrations that depict the struggles the main character goes through and would be appropriate for elementary students. I believe this book would be great to teach civil rights and how other races were affected. </div>]]></description>

Great use when introducing different African American artists, in this case Langston Hughes being a well known writer and poet. The illustrations are involved and rich with color. A teaching point would be more focused on reading comprehension and beyond the text discussion.</div>]]></description>
