Hi! My name is Jenin, and I’m a sophomore majoring in Biology. My career aspirations include becoming either an anesthesiologist or a dermatologist. In my free time, I enjoy reading, hiking, working out, painting, and spending time with my friends. While I don't have any pets, I have a soft spot for cats. Looking forward to a great semester with you!

Liberation, to me, means the act of freeing oneself or others from constraints, oppression, or limitations, whether they are physical, mental, or emotional. It's about breaking free from anything that holds you back and reclaiming your autonomy, dignity, and rights. Liberation is not just a personal journey but also a collective one, where communities strive for justice, equality, and the freedom to live authentically without fear or restraint. It’s the realization and pursuit of a life where everyone can thrive, be themselves, and have control over their own destiny.

Love, to me, is a profound and multifaceted connection that transcends simple emotions. It’s the deep bond that ties people together, rooted in care, respect, and understanding. Love means accepting someone for who they are, flaws and all, and supporting them through life's highs and lows. It's a commitment to another's well-being, often putting their needs alongside or even above your own. Love can be comforting and nurturing, but it also challenges you to grow and become a better version of yourself. At its core, love is about creating a sense of belonging and security, where both people feel valued, seen, and heard.

What gifts, wisdom, knowledge do you have to offer?

I offer kindness, love, and empathy as the core of who I am. Kindness, to me, is about approaching others with a genuine desire to uplift and support them, whether through small acts or simply being there when someone needs a friend. Love is the foundation of my relationships, where I strive to create an environment of acceptance and warmth, allowing those around me to feel safe and valued. Empathy is what drives me to understand and share in the feelings of others, to walk in their shoes and offer comfort or guidance when needed. These qualities shape how I interact with the world and the people in my life.

In addition to these, I also carry knowledge. My parents have always emphasized the importance and privilege that education represents. Growing up with this belief, I’ve come to deeply value learning and the doors it opens. I see education as not just a path to personal growth but as a way to contribute meaningfully to the world around me. This commitment to knowledge drives me to constantly seek understanding and to share what I’ve learned with others, hoping to inspire and uplift them as my parents have done for me.

What song/art holds meaning for you?

The song "Mirrorball" by Taylor Swift holds deep meaning for me. The line "I've never been a natural, all I do is try" resonates with me on a profound level. It captures the essence of how I often feel in my life—like I’m constantly putting on a performance for the people around me, trying to meet their expectations and fit into the roles they’ve cast me in. The song speaks to the pressure of always being on display, of reflecting what others want to see, even when it doesn’t come naturally. It’s a reminder of the effort I put into being there for others, often at the expense of my own authenticity. Yet, despite the challenges, there's a resilience in continuing to try, to be there, and to shine in the ways that I can.

In an Introduction to Women's Studies class, I hope to learn about the diverse experiences and perspectives of women across different cultures, histories, and social contexts. I’m eager to explore the ways in which gender intersects with race, class, sexuality, and other identities, and how these intersections shape women's lives and experiences. I also want to understand the historical and contemporary struggles for gender equality, as well as the theories and movements that have driven change. Additionally, I'm looking forward to learning how to critically analyze societal structures and contribute to discussions on how to create a more just and equitable world for everyone, regardless of gender.

My vision for the future is one where gender equality is not just an aspiration but a reality. I envision a world where everyone, regardless of their gender, has the freedom to pursue their dreams without the constraints of societal expectations or discrimination. I hope to contribute to a society where the voices of women and marginalized groups are amplified and respected, and where diversity is celebrated as a strength. Through education and advocacy, I want to play a role in dismantling the systemic barriers that hold people back and help create a more just, compassionate, and inclusive world. Ultimately, my goal is to empower others to live authentically and fully, in a world where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
