         <description><![CDATA[<div>The British started to tax the colonies and prevented them from expanding. They also left them alone for some time then wanted to be involved in government decisions. The British sent over troops to control the colonies and they also enforced navigation laws. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The colonist tried to reason with Britain many times before the revolution. The olive Branch petition was the last time the colonist tried to reason with Britain. They had continental congresses and they protested/ boycotted British taxes and goods. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>France provided aid to the Americans giving them naval support and weapons.  The British surrendered 5700 troops at the battle of Saratoga. Cornwallis surrendered at Yorktown and the colonist signed the Treaty of Paris formally ending the Revolutionary war.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The colonist were trying to start a new government. They started with the Articles of Confederation but it proved to be too weak. Soon after they wrote the constitution and adopted it. The colonist worked on manufacturing and becoming and independent nation. They set up their own trade and commerce. Later on they would expand west.</div>]]></description>
