I believe their friendship is symbiotic because they are always there for each other. They can stand up for each other and if ones feeling not so good the other is there to help the other one out. George has to constantly be mature and adult like to keep Lennie on track, he has to give him constant reminders of what’s the right thing to do and what’s the wrong, such as when Lennie’s eyes were on Curley’s girl George had to tell him no. Lennie helps George do things like make a fire or get somewhere. In conclusion, I think they are good friends.

My impression on the friendship between Lennie and George it that its pretty symbiotic. George doesn’t really need Lennie, but Lennie depends on George, and that’s why George stays around. For example, when they go to the farm, George won’t let Lennie speak because Lennie isn’t the smartest person. This shows that Lennie depends on George to do the more brains work, and Lennie for more of the bronze of the work. Like George says, “Lennie is a hard worker he’ll do anything you tell him to.” So, it looks like they both depend on each other in their own ways.

I think the relationship between George and Lennie is symbiotic. I think this because George said Lennie to be quiet when they go to find work and George will speak for Lennie. I think this benefits George as well as Lennie. George will have no trouble as he will have no problem/get in any kind of trouble because of Lennie and Lennie, he doesn't have to say or speak anything, or word and he will get the job. In the text, when George and Lennie go to the ranch for the job, when the boss asks them both questions George answers all the questions for him to and Lennie and then they get a job there.

BASMah

The relationship between George and Lennie is symbiotic! The reason why I think this is because George always has a friend, always has entertainment from Lennie, and he also feels protected because Lennie is fairly “big” or “large”, this might make George feel safe. “Le’s go, George. Let’s get out if here. It’s mean here.” Lennie also benefits from this friendship because he always has a smart mind to look after him, care for him, and be the smart one and stand up for him. George takes care of Lennie and that’s beneficial for Lennie. “He’s my…cousin. I told his lady I’d take care of him. He got kicked in the head by a horse when he was a kid.”

The relationship between George and Lennie is not symbiotic. I think George takes all the responsibility. When George and Lennie had to walk to the ranch, George had both of their work cards because Lennie would most likely lose it. George also must constantly remind Lennie about things. He had to remind him where they were going and if he get’s in trouble to go to a brush. George always talks for Lennie because Lennie doesn’t know how to talk smartly on his own. When they got to the ranch George was the only one talking because Lennie doesn’t know what to say or because he would say something wrong.

From what I have read the relationship between George and Lennie is a not a symbiotic relationship. I think this because from the pages that I have read George is helping Lennie by carrying his work pass and bus ticket that he would lose if he had it on his own. Also, George is staying with Lennie and not just leaving him behind. Another point that this is not a symbiotic relationship is, when George say that his life would be much easier if he was on his own and didn’t have to take care of Lennie all the time. Building on that George states that Lennie has lost him so many jobs and is keeping him in hot water all over the time. Therefore, I think that this relationship between Lennie and George is not a symbiotic relationship. This is only what I have observed from the 37 pages that I have read into the story.

Although George sometimes verbally abuses Lennie he still takes care of him even though he does not have to and tries to provide him with a job and food which to me shows that he really does care for him. Another example of their care for each other is their willingness to share their dreams and how they want to see each other happy and safe. This is shown when George tells Lennie to hide in the brush if he was ever to get in trouble.

I think George and Lennie’s relationship is mutually beneficial because nether of them are being “used”. George helps Lennie like how he says he’s always got to look out for him and get him out of trouble, he says he would be a lot better on his own and Lennie only holds him back. George makes some sacrifices for Lennie and doesn’t get much back, but they choose to always look out and care for each other, like when they talk about some people who have nobody to care for them and if they go missing or put in jail nobody would care. They both admit that they’ll always be there for each other and won’t be on there own or uncared for.

George controls him and tells him what to do and doesn’t let him do what he wants to do because Lennie acts like a baby and does stupid stuff. I think its like an on and off relationship because sometimes it can be a symbiotic relationship and sometimes its not. George helps Lennie a lot so that tells me at least he cares about what Lennie does. George always gets mad at Lennie because Lennie always does stupid things, I think the relationship is funny at times.

The relationship between George and Lennie is not symbiotic. The reason why I think this is that the way George is acting towards Lennie is slightly negative. Lenny when on a bit of a rant earlier about how his life would be so much easier if Lenny was not there at all. Another reason why I think this is because after the meeting with the boss of the ranch, Lennie made a comment about how George said they were cousins, and George said that if he was a relative of Lennie’s, he would have shot himself. Although George is trying to help Lennie any way he can, Lennie has not done much to help George in return for his help yet. This is why I have chosen that their relationship is not symbiotic.

Its not at all symbiotic because George gains nothing from the relationship and is hurt by it. Lennie gets a free pass through life with George. On page 11 it says the George lost his job because Lennie grabbed a girl’s dress and on page 22 it shows the George is telling the boss how good of a worker Lennie is even if it hurts his reputation if he screws up.

Although Lennie benefits largely from George way more than George does from Lennie he feels it’s his responsibility to look after him. Lennie always seems to put a smile on Georges face too. If Lennie didn’t have George he probably wouldn’t do to well because he needs someone to help him out and explain what and what not is acceptable. For example, when the lady walks in looking for someone George reacts as soon as she leaves and lets Lennie know he can’t do so much as look at her for he would be putting their jobs in danger. On page 14 they both keep each other determined dreaming and planning in the future to have a small house, a couple of acres and animals. They also show a strong friendship between them George keeping Lennie in his lane and Lennie keeping George happy. If they didn’t have each other they would be very lonely like said on page 13. Overall, I think they keep each other happy and in the right mind.

I think this way because Lennie is the one who is the one who needs help in almost everything. This is because Lennie is a person with a bit of problems, so he is special. George is smart, so he doesn't really need any help from anyone, Example in the first chapter George gets mad and says to Lennie that if he was alone life would have been much easier. He could get a job easy and live with no problems. These are some reasons why I think this is not a symbiotic relationship.

They may have fights here and there, but they are still together for a reason. Lennie obviously needs George for help when it comes to making proper judgment. For example it is usually George telling Lennie what to do because Lennie cannot make his own decisions. George may also need Lennie so he will not be picked on by other people. Its not that George and Lennie have no one else to be with that they are such close friends. Yes or no.

My impression on their relationship to me is like how a big brother looks after a little sister. and how a little sister looks up to a big brother. At times it is strong and at times it is weak. George is always taking care of Lennie, and he really cares for him enough to help and stay with him through the Great Depression. But at the same time, it is a love hate relationship, which makes it a symbiotic one. They sometimes don't see eye to eye on certain things, but they need each other, emotionally and physically. George wants a woman to love, while Lennie is there stroking animals for comfort and to give comfort for the animal. They will make sacrifices for one and other as well as caring.

The relationship between George and Lennie is not symbiotic. George definitely has a disadvantage in this relationship and Lennie gets an advantage. Yes, I think they are good friends and care about each other deeply, but George has a disadvantage. An example is when of page 13 George says that life would be way easier if Lennie wasn’t in it. This just proves that this is not symbiotic. George doesn't benefit from Lennie, he would be better of on his own. Lennie benefits from George though. By George sticking around, Lennie gets a job, a home, and a friend all because of George who he is benefiting off of.

In my opinion, the relationship between George and Lennie is a symbiotic relationship. Though Lennie doesn’t do many things that benefit George, he does help George get a job. Lennie is a strong man, which is good for laborious work, but he isn’t very smart. George is a smaller man, but is smart person and ends up being the voice of the group, often speaking for Lennie. George and Lennie help one another get jobs. George cares about Lennie and would want him to be on his own. A good example would be Steinbeck, pg13 where George doesn’t want Lennie to go live by himself, in worry of Lennie dying.
