The tone and mood of the story starts off melancholy, while it takes a dramatic shift to feelings of being reborn. The ending of the story strips that all away, and leaves the reader with a feeling of sadness and emptiness. The details contributing to these tones are the husband dying of course, and Mrs. Mallards strong reaction to it. And then, the descriptions of feeling like a new life is ahead of her. Finally, once more with the last sentence of joy being the thing to kill her. The tone follows along with what Mrs. Mallard is feeling, working with her as she quickly works through her grief up until her untimely death.

I would describe the tone and mood of The Story of an Hour as changing a lot throughout the story. At first it's really sad because Mrs. Mallard is upset about her husbands death. Then it got better when she realized that she is free and can live for herself. At the end it changes again to shock when her husband walks in alive so she dies. It goes from sad to hopeful and then unexpected.

I feel like the tone of the story reflected off of the characters emotions, so in a sense for me at least, it was a rollercoaster. However, this is a good thing!! the story was very detailed and gave us insight on the how emotionally destructive she was in the last parts of the story, and how our emotions have much more affect on the human body than a lot of people think they do. our brain, which processes grief in so many ways, was overshadowed by her finality of freedom-- or at least what freedom she thought she had until her hopes were crushed. overall, it was very detailed and gave us a personal insight by explaining it thoroughly which was easily understandable.

In the beginning of the play, I didn't see any significant evidence indicating the rumors about the characters in the play are actually accurate.
