"You Can Do It" encouraged women to fight for their right to work after the men came back from war and sent them back to being homemakers.
-Denotation: Glamorous woman in a work uniform. One of many war ads during that time.
Connotation: Feminism, women's right, we can do it, dominant, confident, empowering, determined, collective, yellow as a war color "hope"
-Like most ads trying to convey representation, Rosie was met with criticism as well. One example is portraying women as masculine in order to validate their existence in the workplace. Others see Rose the Riveter as merely the face of strength and determination.
-the gaze - directed at women from women
-Graphic artist J Howard Miller created this image for women in the 1940s.
