How does Huck Finn change through the course of the novel, and how far does his change go?

After spending so much time together, Huck has realized that Jim is not a slave to him, but instead a human being that is a friend.

Huck tells Tom that they need to go rescue Jim and Tom says yes.

"... Will you?" "His eye lit up and he says: I'll help you steal him!"

Huck writes the letter to Miss Watson so that Jim could be saved but that plan fails because Huck realizes that Jim will become a slave once again.

This symbolizes love and care. Huck was used to Jim not waking him up. This showed the reader that Jim cared for Huck. Since Huck is younger than Jim, Jim lets Huck sleep more when it was his turn to keep watch. Huck realizes that and he know that Jim has feelings like a human being.

This quote shows us that Huck feels sad that Jim was gone. His tears symbolized the loss of a good friend. He couldn't imagine a world with out Jim. He felt as if the world was lost and that he might of never seem Jim again. He is worried of where Jim might of gone or what happened to him. He also sees that his friend is going back to being a slave and that things aren't going to be good for Jim so he feels bad.

Huck was not sure at the end about sending the letter to Miss Watson. He knew that Jim could of been rescued, but he wouldn't be a free man anymore. Huck instead ripped the letter and never sent it. He wanted Jim to be a free guy, not a slave. This shows that he cares about Jim but not to the point to make him a slave again.

Huck is so worried about Jim. Once Tom reappears, Jim asks Tom for his help and Tom says yes. So Jim is doing anything to save his friend, Jim. Tom only says yes since he want to go on an adventure. Jim is confiding Tom with a thing that can cause trouble. Basically Jim is telling his friend Tom to help him rescue another friend of his. Jim is not just any other friend, he is a slave. So that means that Huck will do anything for Jim.
