Metacognition

Metacognition helped basketball star Kobe Bryant achieve his goals in his career. Kobe was known for his mindset, and would do things that no one else would do. During a big game in Kobe's career, he called for the ball for the final shot, because he practices the same shot every day. Thinking he would make the shot and win his team the game, he missed the shot and his season was over. His whole team flew back to LA and he was the only one that went right to the gym to practice the shot he missed. He took the same shot over and over again until the next morning. Bryant realized that you can practice something over and over, but there will always be one mess up. This is why Kobe Bryant is different than most basketball players, being metacognitive always impacts you in a good way.
Rob, ~. (2016, June 16). Motivation: A metacognitive perspective.

What helped the greatest basketball player of all time was not that he can run fast and jump high. What helped him is that he was present. Meditation was a big part of the way Mr. Jordan carried himself on and off the court. When MJ first got to the league there was a tremendous amount of pressure not just for his success but his teams success. Under new coach Phil Jackson the team was in its way to new heights. Unlike other coaches in the NBA Phil preached about peace of mind and being present. He encouraged the whole team to meditate and to find peace within themselves. Zen Buddhism really helped MJ and the team which played a huge role in contributing to their 6 championship rings.

https://www.huffpost.com/entry/michael-jordans-mindfulne_b_7523748
