Filming an Interview & Overlay

1. Select someone from your neighbourhood who’s talkative and who can provide you with strong interview answers (known as soundbites or grabs).

2. Record the interview in person or via Zoom. It doesn’t have to be long. Keep recording and interviewing until you’ve got enough for 3-4 strong soundbites or about one minute worth of content. The theme of the interview is what they’ve appreciated about the outdoors while living in the pandemic.

Example interview questions:

Ask questions about what they’ve witnessed in their neighbourhood due to the pandemic.
Has there been a decrease in traffic?

Are they more in touch with nature? What do they think about their less crowded, quieter neighbourhood?
What will they miss when the life returns to normal?

3. Store the interview on your hard drive.

4. Listen back to the answers. Are there any references to strong natural sounds and visual images? Capture these scenes using your video camera or smartphone and/or sound recording app.

5. Store these clips on your hard drive

6. Bring all your raw material to class in two weeks (Week 9).
