The speaker, the story did not tell us “who”, specifically, said the quote. Just an unidentified Speaker. Everyone in the community is just in the town, going on with their day. Most (including Jonas) are on their bikes when the first part of the announcement comes. This quote tells us that this is a dystopian society, as some higher power chooses when they leave the town. I connected this to the Hunger Games as in the Hunger Games there is a dystopian society. When the quote is said, Jonas smiled, but he knew it was a grim statement. In other words, you could say that Jonas was scared because an unfamiliar aircraft was flying overhead. When the quote was said, he knew it was a grim statement, even though he smiled a bit. The author is trying to make us see that this is a dystopian society, people are kicked out of the city when they do something wrong. This quote is important because it tells us that this is a dystopian, not utopian, society. This quote made me think about how lucky I am to have choices, and I won’t be kicked out of my home when I make a little mistake.

When a plane has just flew over the community and everyone is worried the speaker says “Needles to say, he will be released.” In other words the man will be punished in the worst way for his transgression though it was unintentional. The author is trying to make us see that some are sad and forgiving even though he causes them to be scared and does not think he should be released. To me this quote means that we should forgive people for unintentional mistakes. In the real world I see this as someone making a mistake and getting put to jail. This passage had significant impact on my thinking of punishing people for unintentional actions.
