They are on a school trip to the Grand Canyon, when they arrive they are attacked by Storm Spirits, Jason pulls out a coin and it transforms into a sword and he fights them off. The gym coach turns out to be satyr (half man half goat) and is captured by the Storm Spirits. A chariot arrives led by Annabeth although she was looking for the missing Percy Jackson she takes Jason, Piper, and Leo back to Camp Half-Blood. At Camp Half-Blood Piper learns she is a daughter of Aphrodite, Leo learns he is a son of Hephaestus and Jason learns he is a son of Zeus/Jupiter.

Character Chart:
Jason Grace: Son of Zeus/Jupiter, Protagonist.
Piper McLean: Daughter of Aphrodite, Protagonist.
Leo Valdez: Son of Hephaestus, Protagonist.
Annabeth Chase: Daughter of Athena, Protagonist
Gaea: Goddess of Earth, Antagonist
Coach Hedge: Satyr, Side character.

Rick Riordans Writing Style:
Rick Riordan books are all about mythology, and in The Lost Hero he uses Greek mythology.

About Rick Riordan:
http://rickriordan.com/about/

Summary:
I've read from page 80-200 this week. A summary of that is Piper has been having dreams of a giant that has captured her father, and in the dreams the giant commands her to betray her friends in order for her father to still alive. Leo has the ability to shoot flames out of his but he is afraid to use them because he thinks he caused his mother's death. His mother died by her car mechanic burning down with her inside trapped. Jason doesn't remember much about his family but he remembers his sister is at Camp Half-Blood. His sister is a Hunter of Artemis and is out of the camp at the moment. The 3 heroes receive a prophecy that tells them they need to go save Hera. Leo also builds a mechanical dragon called Festus. Jason, Piper, and Leo head off to Quebec, Canada to find Boreas the God of the North Wind.

Character Chart:
Jason Grace: Can use lightning and can control wind. Son of Zeus/Jupiter, Protagonist.
Piper McLean: Girlfriend to Jason, power is charm speak. Daughter of Aphrodite, Protagonist.
Leo Valdez: Can shoot fires from his hand, immune to fire and is excellent at building and repairing stuff. Son of Hephaestus, Protagonist.
Annabeth Chase: Looking for Percy Jackson.Daughter of Athena, Protagonist
Gaea: She has awaken and is ready to destroy both Greek and Roman demigods. Goddess of Earth, Antagonist
Coach Hedge: Captured by storm spirits. Satyr, side character.
Hera: Needs rescuing. Goddess of Marriage and Birth, side character.
Festus: A mechanical dragon Leo has put together that will take them where they need to go, side character.
Talia: Jason's sister. Hunter of Artemis, side character.

Commentary:
I find Jason the most interesting character in The Lost Hero. I find interesting because he is a son of Zeus and he has amnesia which makes for a interesting story. Jason is the protagonist and he is a natural born leader because he is a son of Zeus. Jason is a round character because he will learn more about his past as more as the story goes on.

My Citation:
dylanfalcon45 (Dylan Hodges). The gang finds out the saleslady is Medea who is a evil Greek sorceress who killed her children. Medea charm speaks Leo and Jason to attack each other, but before they can Piper stops them and they snap out of it and attacks Medea. After Medea is defeated the heroes and coach hedge keep on following the storm spirit. Festus fell apart mid flight following the storm spirit causing the heroes to crash land on a mansions lawn. They find out Festus was shot by lasers from this mansion. When in the mansion they find the owner who is King Midas, he is the king who everything he touches turns to gold. Midas turns Piper and Leo to gold. Midas son Lit is a Greek swordsman and is challenged by Jason to not get turned into gold. Jason tricks Midas into touching Lit and turns him into gold, Jason breaks the roof with lightning and rain pours in which frees everyone from being gold. The heroes escape. The heroes stop at a river to get all the gold off but now Piper has hypothermia because of how cold the water is. The heroes are ambushed by wolves and Lycaon, the first ever werewolf. They are then saved by the Hunters of Artemis and Lycaon retreats.

Character Chart:
Jason Grace: Can use lightning and can control wind. Son of Zeus/Jupiter, Protagonist. Long black hair, red eyes.

Commentary:
I find Jason the most interesting character in The Lost Hero. I find him the most interesting for several reasons. He has amnesia and remembers very little the past, evidence of this is "He woke up in the backseat of the bus, not sure where he was." Another interesting part about Jason is he is the only son of Zeus at the moment, evidence of this is " I am a son of Zeus, feel my wrath!".

Themes:
One theme for The Lost Hero is never forget where you come from. Jason has amnesia and is trying to regain his memories throughout the course of the book slowly remembering certain events. A book or tale that has a similar theme is the Odyssey, Homer gets lost and is constantly trying to get back to his home.

My Citation:
dylanfalcon45 (Dylan Hodges). Disney Publishing Worldwide, October 12, 2010.".

Summary:
I have read 153 pages for this weeks blog. The heroes go to visit Aeolus. Aeolus tells the heroes where the giant that is keeping Pipers father is. The giant is at Mount Diablo and the heroes make haste. The giant is named Enceladus and the heroes come up with a plan to rescue Piper's dad. Leo uses a bulldozer to attack, Jason and Coach Hedge distract the giant while Piper rescues her dad. They find out the only way to kill Enceladus is that a demigod and a God work together, so Jason calls upon Zeus to help him kill Enceladus. Jason tackles Enceladus and Zeus sends a lightning bolt through Jason striking Enceladus. They get a ride to the Oakland airport by a helicopter pilot. Piper gives her father a potion that will wipe his recent memories to make him forget about all that has happened. Talia tells them where Hera is and the heroes head off that way. They crash land nearby the abandoned mansion where Hera is. A battle is raging between the Hunters of Artemis and Porphyrion army of monsters. The cage Hera is in is tough to break. Khione appears with a frozen Talia alongside her. The heroes fight Khione and her monsters and the heroes are victorious. Porphyrion wakes up and attacks, Jason holds him off until Leo and Piper can get Hera out of her cage. Hera gets out of her cage and tells the heroes to cover their eyes, Jason is sidetracked and Hera releases a supernova. Everything that covered the mansion is gone and Jason is still out cold. When Jason wakes up he learns that he has been a Roman demigod all his life. Hera teleports the heroes back to Camp Half Blood. The heroes find out that Percy Jackson is probably at the Roman demigod camp.

Character Chart:
Jason Grace: Can use lightning and can control wind. The reading level matches the content and the theme because The Lost Hero is not a very complex book and it has easy to follow characters. I was surprised by the reading level because I read this book back in the 6th or 7th grade. I would say any grade level above 5th grade is appropriate to read this novel because the words aren't complex enough you will need a dictionary and the story is easy to follow and remember.

Rate the Book:
The Lost hero was a very interesting book throughout.I found the ending was really good because at the end we find out Percy Jackson and Jason Grant have switched spots. The novel encaged me throughout with interesting fight sequences and interesting character development. The ending was good as it leaves you wanting to read more. I would recommend to anyone that likes fantasy like books.I would rate The Lost Hero a 4.5 out of 5

My Citation:
dylanfalcon45 (Dylan Hodges).
