I remember getting off the bus and being walked home by my mother alongside my sister when she told us the news.  I remember going to my room afterwards and just hugging the teddy bear that he had gotten me knowing that I would have to attend his wake soon.

When we got to the funeral home it was full, even of family members I hadn't seen in years. They all were mourning, and yet they were all holding each other up. 

It was hard making it through the wake, I couldn't go 2 minutes without bursting into sobs but I remember the way my mom held up my aunt as she cried. We had no set place to live as it was sprung on us so quickly but we made do. 

Despite now being technically homeless, I think I'm the happiest I've ever been. I get to see my family more often, and even now that Lily's gone off to college, I've been more in contact with her than ever.

We visit my grandfather and brother every week, just to leave the motel room for a couple hours to get a change in scenery and to use an actual oven.
