In reading this book some main concepts that stood out to me were that this book talks back to the founding values of this country such as liberty, which traces to the current debate about free expression, and equality. Not only this but another that connects with the commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. These values have always been in tension, which is still very much an issue today.

This chapter in this book talks about a few school shootings and I found a theme of all these kids feeling small and powerless, and committing these attacks was the only way that they would prove to the world how powerful they are. There was another thing that stood out to me and that was the entitlement that our society has on males and that they need to “Be a Man, but Don’t Be a Hu-man,” and this means gender norms in our society and especially its masculinity prescriptions, so naturally the boys who committed school shootings were trying to conform to accepted ideas about what makes “real” boys and “real” men.

In this chapter, they talk about how most of the school shooters were white and middle to upper middle class, yet they did not receive their strict dividend as Connell describes it; power, prestige, and material advantages many of the school shooters gravitated toward powerful ideas and icons such as Nietzsche, Hitler, and Satan. The epidemic of school shootings is a phenomenon limited to suburban and rural white boys and these rampages occur for entirely different reasons than those in the inner cities or among boys of other racial backgrounds.

MacLeish Ph.D. This talks about how there are four assumptions that frequently arise in the aftermath of mass shootings in the United States which are: that mental illness causes gun violence, psychiatric diagnosis can predict gun crime, shootings represent the deranged acts of mentally ill loners, and gun control “won’t prevent” another school mass shooting until they start from the root of these causes so starting at home with the parents and then in schools.

This movie touches on many points that have been talked about previously in the Bibliography. This is about a young girl named Zoe who is in high school. The movie shows she has her own struggles, especially after losing her mother and still mourning her mother's death. Not only the girl but also another young man whose name is Tristan. The leader of the small group of high school students who murder their schoolmates. Their leader, Tristan, is particularly remorseless and appears to be a psychopath who wants to secure his notoriety and immortality by committing mass murder.

This song was released on February 21, 2018. The song is dedicated to the kids who lost their lives during the school shooting in Parkland, Florida which took place on February 14, 2018. The song, dedicated to those who died in and survived the Parkland shooting, speaks of the subject of survivor's guilt that may be experienced by those who survived the shooting, The comparison that I have of this song with the rest of the resources is that this song talks more about one perspective. The feelings that the artist felt. In the music, X also sings about the inaction of political officials following the shooting. X had said in 2016 that he opposed gun control measures, citing this as one of the reasons he disliked 2016 Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, though he wanted her to win over Republican nominee Donald Trump. X supported Bernie Sanders during the 2016 primary. However, X reversed his stance on the gun control issue following the Parkland shooting.

This article is by Tim Arango. And while reading this article I came across 3 points. The first point is that there are schools that have banished police officers from campuses because resource officers have done disproportionate suspensions and arrests and victimization of both Black and Latino students. This is an issue because as stated in the article, "Nearly three dozen studies of school police wrote that the presence of officers 'contributes to increased punishment of students without providing improvements in school safety.” The second point is America’s unrelenting epidemic of gun violence has just been increasing and there are more school shootings. In the same way, parents of school-age children wanted armed security on their campuses. This is because the decision to bring officers back to schools is the fear of parents who mobilized after shootings this year. Additionally, kids and young adults were traumatized not just by the shootings but also by several lockdowns at school over threats of violence that don't transpire. The last and most important one is despite popular support for armed officers in schools, numerous studies have shown that such policing does little to prevent shootings or gun violence. This is due to the lack of training that is undergone on mass-shooting scenarios and the duty to confront school shooters has become even more clear, law enforcement leaders say.
