Firstly, Tourism being promoted is form of development for the LDCs, as tourist would visit the countries and the countries would naturally feel the need to upgrade and develop their infrastructures and facilities. 

Secondly, tourism would positively impact the LDCs  in terms of economics. Tourism would offer more employment opportunities for the locals as there will be increase in the number of tourist related jobs. These jobs includes jobs that are both directly and indirectly linked to tourism industry such as travel agents and taxi drivers, respectively. With the introduction of tourism in to LDCs, it will allow the locals to take on jobs and it can lead to growth of income for both individual and the country. Statistics from UNWTO has shown that tourism industry employed over 235 million people worldwide , which is roughly 6 to 8 per cent of all the jobs in the world, in 2011. This would in turn allow the countries to profit through the collection of taxes from the people and the companies. furthermore, tourism receipts, which refers to money received from tourist spending, generates large revenue for the country. As such, with the great economic benefit, tourism should be promoted in LDCs. 

I acknowledge the fact that tourism may bring about negative impacts such as the under-use of facilities at certain times of the year and seasonal unemployment. However, the positive impact that tourism has on LDCs is a long term impact as compared to the negative impacts brought by tourism. Generally, tourism increases employment opportunity, allowing the growth of income for individuals and countries and develop the infrastructues and facilities in the LDCs. As such positive impact, example being development of infrastructure, can benefit the country in the long run as the country continues to prosper and grow. Furthermore, the negative impacts of tourism, such as the under-use of facilities, can always be eliminated by allowing the citizens to make good use of it instead of confiding the infrastructure and facilities to solely one use. Also, such negative impacts only last for a short period of time, thus it is not very significant in affect the people of LDCs.

In the long run, LDCs would benefit more than that they would suffer. Thus with the positive impact of tourism outweighing the negative impacts, Tourism should be promoted in LDCs.

When there is tourism in the country, there would be tourism-related jobs that the locals can take up. therefore there is an increase in job opportunities for the locals to take up. The growth in tourism in a country can also lead to growth in income for individuals and the country. When the locals take on tourism related jobs on top of their daily work, they would have extra income from the tourists. For example, in Philippines, local tour companies would hire local fishermen to take on tourists, and they would be paid a significant amount which contributes to a growth income. 
Secondly, when tourism is promoted in LDCs, there is conservation in natural environment. Because of tourism, coral reefs, rainforests and mountainous areas are conserved to serve as  a tourist site. One example is the Sepilok Orang-utan Rehabilitation center in Sabah, Malaysia. Therefore, when tourism is promoted in LDCs, natural environments can be preserved.

However, there are cons to promoting tourism in LDCs. Firstly, there might be vandalism in tourists' sites for example the great wall of China in Beijing China. Secondly, there would also be littering and pollution by the tourist which is bad for the environment and the country, as it may hurt the country's reputation and discourage tourists to come visit due to its pollution. Lastly. there would also be dilution of local customs and heritage.  They become commercialised for the tourists and the true identity might be lost due to tourism.

Overall, in my opinion, tourism should still be promoted in LDCs. No, tourism should not be promoted as it will result in culture dilution and cause the locals to lose their national identity. For example, when tourists visit rural areas , the locals will be compelled to dance for them to interest them. However, the dance is usually meant for religious reasons and dancing just to interest the tourists will cause the locals to lose their roots,

It is more important for tourism to be promoted as without tourism, the citizens may have difficulties in settling their basic needs and will face many financial difficulties. However,tourism in LDCs may also destroy natural habitats in the countries.Tourist sites such as jungles,beaches and scenic villages may be spoilt by the overwhelming number of tourists visiting the area.Egypt's Red Sea was developed into a diving and snorkelling attraction,destroying many natural habitats for aquatic wildlife,causing them to die off.Thus,promoting tourism may cause deleterious ramifications to wildlife.

Employment allows locals to have job opportunities to aid in their livelihood and their daily expenses. Through tourism, job opportunities such as workers in hotels, transportation, souvenir shops and tour agencies. Hence, tourism should be promoted in LDCs so that the locals are able to find a job through the increase in employment opportunities.

The fishermen are paid ranging from US$80 to US$100 which is a significant amount for an average fisherman. Due to high demand, fishermen may earn additional income as well as tour companies will experience in an increase in revenue. Hence, tourism can benefit the country by the growth in income for both the individual and the country.

However, the leakage from the revenue can occur in LDCs. The revenue generated from tourism does not always remain in the tourist where tourists soend their money.

In conclusion, I believe that tourism should be promoted in LDCs despite the revenue generated from tourism does not always remain in a country. The growth in income and employment opportunities impacted more on individuals even though the country does not have significant growth in economy. However, in a long run, the LDCs may slowly feel the impact from tourism through the growth in economy. However, some countries promote their tourism by building new facilities for a large event. This will lead to the under use of facilities at certain times of the year. These facilities are in need to high maintenance cost. Paying off the maintenance cost is mainly come from the tourists. So, when the site is not attractive anymore, the number of tourists will dropped and the maintenance cost will mainly come from other forms of revenues. For instance, some venues in Beijng, China that were built for the Olympics Games in 2008. As the facilities are hard to maintain, they have been changed to a more profitable and affordable to maintain such as the Beijing Aquatic Center.


In conclusion, promoting tourism in LDCs can bring advantages and disadvantages to the country. But i still believed that Tourism is still helpful as it can bring the benefits in a long term run.
