Motivational speaker, Adriana, Galvin is a student at UCLA that studies brain changes. Every single day the brain constantly changes and releases dopamine to certain parts of the brain. an experiment took place where sugar water and money was given to kids and adults. When the brain is given something that makes it excited then it reacts differently than it normally would. its influenced to act differently. This applies to the story because most of the characters in the novel are younger and they act differently once they get something that they like. The characters begin to get really sensitive during some of the scenes resulting in the release of the dopamine.
