Peerceptiv is a cloud-based double-blind tool for facilitating peer review in large classes. I use it to help students engage in critical and reflective thinking as well as to expose them to the ideas and writing of other students in the course. There is also a tool that will allow you to create teams based on students' survey responses. I use it to group students who have a shared interest in a particular topic and have shared availability to meet into groups together.

If you are looking for a perfect first step to 'FLIP' your class, trying Perusall! Students read or watch anything, collaboratively, and come to class prepared to discuss the reading or the movie or anthing online...including maps and images. You can use the class time 'doing' instead of lecturing about the reading (that before Perusall they likely didn't do!). Easy to setup in Canvas, free to everyone, automated low stakes AI grading, designed by a physics professor at Harvard. Ask me if you have any questions: Catharina Laporte

PackBack is an on-line discussion board that has helped me keep students engaged outside of the classroom. It also allows you to break large classes into smaller discussion sections, building community amongst the students.

Consider using LinkedIn Learning as a textbook supplement or replacement. The platform is free for all TAMU students and offers a wealth of short and long high quality, transcribed videos that can be added to a playlist for your class!

Gradescope

I’m a strong proponent of Gradescope for grading assignments and exams in engineering. From my perspective, it does essentially everything Canvas does (usually better) and then some. It integrates with Canvas and is free for TAMU faculty.
