         <description><![CDATA[<div>From my perspective, everything that we have covered in this class with regards to drug and nutrient interactions points to the advancement of the novel field of precision medicine. Precision Medicine is a new approach to patient care that specifically accounts for individual differences at the genetic, environmental, and lifestyle level, as to personalize treatment tailored to individuals - which is very different from the "one-size-fits-all" approach that is most common today.  The topics that I most hope to see researched more extensively  in the future are definitely the microbiome - especially how it relates to mental health; gene therapy methods such as CRISPR; and simply all of nutrition in general. -Titus</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I really think that the future of drug-nutrient interactions will become more and more individualized within the coming years. As I have gone through this course, it seems that we are able to link so many underlying medical issues to a deficiency in some sort of nutrient over a period of time. Even all over the news, people are desperately trying to find ways to fortify our immune systems against COVID-19 by consuming certain nutrients (here is one debating the consumption of vitamin D from Fox News) <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/health/vitamin-d-coronavirus-pandemic">https://www.foxnews.com/health/vitamin-d-coronavirus-pandemic</a> . The simple statement "you are what you eat" is an extreme blanket statement, but I feel that this course has given me an appreciation for what that means. How often are we  going to be able to link certain diagnoses to a certain chronic pattern of nutrient or drug consumption? I expect that for years to come, research will continue to identify these habits as a source of disease instead of seeing many of them as a person suddenly stricken with illness. While we are not defined by the diseases we contract, I feel that more often research will be able to identify the patterns of consumption that put us in those positions, and be able to treat them more effectively with nutrients. That is what I believe will be the essence and future of precision and personalized medicine, and the future of research when it comes to drug and nutrient interaction research.  <br>-Josh </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Here is a nice TED talk to supplement what I said in my comment! Mental health has generally been something we throw a lot of pills at...... What if nutrition is a less aggressive, safer option to treat mental illness (amongst other things) down the road? I love that idea and hope that research can continue following these kinds of projects.          <title>Week 13- Monisha Rekhraj               In my opinion, drug and nutrient interactions have always been relevant in the clinical setting. Healthcare providers try to take extra precautions to try and individualize a patient&#39;s overall care. I feel the future of this field will continue to personalize and individualize medical treatment to a more precise extent. The new research we have discussed in our genetics &amp; nutrition section as well as microbial impacts on nutrition and pharmacology is currently being implemented into practice and will continue to be practiced as we move on in our own careers. I see these two areas become very specialized the more we learn about genetics &amp; nutrition as well as the microbiome. Perhaps in a few decades we will have human microbiome specialists! One topic I would like to see researched more is the relation of the topics I discussed and aging. Since the research is so novel, there aren&#39;t many studies that are performed over a lifetime. How is the microbiome affected during infancy and old age and why? Also I would like to learn/read more new research about the gut-brain axis. This could elucidate many questions we currently have about development, mental health, as well as immunity in autoimmune/neurological disorders like multiple sclerosis (which novel research has insinuated a relation to the gut microbiome).</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I really would love to see more research done into food consumption and diets. With the understanding of how nutrients are processed and how they affect the body, I feel as though, now, more effort can be put into researching the exact effects of dietary changes (i.e. vegetarian, vegan, Jain diet) and the effects of fad diets. There has been considerable research into, for example, the keto diet as a medical treatment, but little as a long term diet (though most doctors understand it's not a long term solution). With research targeted exactly at the question of diets, it would help to broaden general understanding of diets and what is science backed and what is not.</div>]]></description>
