The print above was taken from the right middle finger. This balloon print was the easiest to conduct and the one that provided the best visual of the ridges. This print is an example of an ulnar loop. The loop is following the direction of the little finger. There are also some vertical lines that are visible on the print, this can be an indicator of dry skin or old age.

Latent Print

This print is a latent print of the right ring finger. I forgot to label this print and at first I did not know which hand or finger this print came from however, using the skills that I learned in class I was able to figure it out. From the latent print it is obvious that this is a whorl. I was able to eliminate all of the prints on my left hand because they all consisted of only loops. Then, I was able to narrow it down to the thumb, index, and ring finger because they were all whorls. After comparing them I was able to narrow it down to the ring finger because of the vertical line that runs near the center of the whorl. Comparing this print to the ink print was very interesting because I was able to see similarities from both prints. I also noticed that some details are not visible on the latent print and are more visible on the ink print. The latent print was also very difficult to conduct because if the brush was run over the print too many times it would cause the print to disappear. This made me realize how important it is to master this skill before going into the field and gathering real evidence from a crime scene. It can be very easy to ruin the evidence and a small mistake like that can ruin lives and lead to criminals not being prosecuted for their crimes.

The ink prints were very difficult to conduct. After practicing several times I found that the best way to conduct ink prints is to not use a lot of ink. The results from this set of prints was very surprising. It was very surprising to know that I have a double loop whorl on my left thumb. The entire fingerprint set consisted of loops and whorls. There was also a lot of horizontal and vertical lines that were more visible with ink than with graphite. It makes sense to have vertical and horizontal lines on my fingerprints because I have very dry skin.

Graphite is not the best material to use for fingerprinting. It was very difficult to manage the tape properly and keep it from sticking to other objects. This set of fingerprints consists of ulnar loops and whorls along with vertical lines that can be an indicator of dry skin or old age.
