For most of the day, nurses would be found in offices instead of being out on the ward engaging with patients and teaching students

Some more simulation sessions would have been helpful to prepare us for physical placements, basic care skills such as washing and dressing, escalating observations, assisted feeding, etc.

EPAD being unclear. The ePAD session we had before placement felt very unorganised. Questions we asked were met with a response of “I’ll try to find out/ I’ll ask someone else”. There were lots of questions about how many hours we were allowed to be under, if proficiencies could be carried forward etc etc

Ensure that if proficiencies and competencies can definitely be achieved in placement areas that are both community and ward based. or specify as community placements are drastically different from the hospital therefore expectations should replicate that. Or provide alternatives like (insight days) during placements to make up for proficiencies that cannot be achieved in a certain sector.

being placed in 2 community placements or 2 hospital, restricts a wider accumulation of knowledge and skills.

Practice assessors could have training to ensure that they are familiar with how the EPAD works, to ensure a smoother transition for students.

Staff were supportive with the transition in placement and were proactive in ensuring that problems were catered to.
