It’s not a must, but it’s an advantage if you can draw, sketch, design, do handicraft, and have experience making models and prototypes. Even if you don’t, that's alright too! All you need is a passion for design, have a curious and inquiring mind, plus a genuine concern for people and places.

For EAE/EAEi/SDAE
If drawing is listed in the Portfolio Requirements by the Diploma of your choice then YES, it's needed.

What is Poly like? It's a 3 years course.
- In year 1 you will learn all the fundamentals and throw the foundation to your learning experience.
- In year 2 you will begin to explore more and specialize. it's a year of discoveries and experimentation. Of course you will learn new skills that will build on your fundamentals.
- In year 3 you will specialize even further. It will be divided in 4 periods during which you can either take your last semester, build your portfolio and work on a personal project or be attached to a company for internship or do your major Final Year Project. (you will do all three just in different order.)

Can I go for Further Studies?

Further Studies? Yes, you can go for further studies both locally or overseas. In fact we have advanced standing in many Universities both in Singapore and abroad (that means that you can transfer module credits over and sometimes skip almost a full year!).

What kind of computer would I need?

* For courses involved in 3D the recommendation is to get a good gaming laptop pc with at least 32GB ram, gtx 1650 (4gb memory) or better, CORE i7 (instead of i5) as we can foresee software evolving fast. What is Internship Like?

You will go for either a 3 months or 6 months internship in Year 3.

Some students can also take up our unique Work-Based Learning Programme and be attached with a company to work on specific projects for 9 months.

It can be local or overseas. Company size ranges from small to big and the students are paired and attached to the company matching their skillset with the company requirements.

There are 3 admission exercises for Secondary School Students and ITE. (if you don't count PFP which I will address separately)
SDAE is also suitable for International Students, IGSE and exceptional cases.

2 exercises are based on Portfolio (EAE and SDAE) and one on results (JAE/JPAE)

How do I know if I can apply to a course?

Okay so, around the first 2nd week of January you should be receiving something that looks like this. (sample of form A)

As you can see this form will list the codes of the courses you are eligible for.
(that is why you need to know the diploma codes: ex C33 is Animation & Visual Effects).

That is how you know if you can apply.

Courses fill up based on results/merit first, not choice, so do some thinking when you apply.

Being eligible does not mean you will automatically get in, you still need to consider the cut-off point.

It usually takes place between January and April.

You need to prepare specific documentation to join one of our diplomas so read carefully what the procedure is like on our school's website.

CHOICES

1) Can only choose 1 course?
When you apply you can put 3 options. Put your preferred one first, the second one should be something you like and/or don't mind, same for your third choice.
It is better to choose 3 within the same cluster (ex: Creative Media & Technology) since you are spreading your interest and chances for EAE

2) What is the acceptance rate for EAE applicants?
We take between 40% to 50% of applicants.

WRITE-UPS

1) What's the difference between the 600-character write-up and the 1000-character write-up?
The 600-character is a mandatory write-up for each selected course that should showcase evidence of an applicant’s interest and aptitude. For example, if the applicant is selecting 3 courses, they need to submit 3 sets of 600-character write-ups. This can include CCAs, hobbies, personal experience and/or participation in competitions or workshops that are related to the course.
The 1000-character is not compulsory, it helps to boost chances if an applicant fills in this section. This is an opportunity to highlight any talent & achievements that are not related to a course. It can include community service activities, entrepreneurship, leadership positions, and art/sports achievements.
That's the difference :)

2) When is the date to submit write-ups for EAE?
You submit your writeups with your application on the EAE portal. The dates will be available on the same portal so keep an eye on it.

3) For the EAE 600-character write-up, can we use the same write-up to apply for similar courses in 3 different polytechnics?
That might get you rejected. If you do not know the difference between the courses taught by the different Polytechnics you will come off as someone who did not do proper research and is randomly applying everywhere.

4) How can we tailor each write-up to the course we are applying for if the courses are similar?
Read about the courses so you know what is expected. You cannot write the same writeup for a Programming course and a Design course, for example, as their expectations will be different.

5) Can I use the same 600-character write-up for all of my choices?
Do not do that. Every diploma is different and you should tell us that you know that in the write-up. If you copy paste you might get rejected.

6) Is it mandatory to do the 1000-character write-up if I do not have competitions or leadership?
It is not but it might definitely up your chances to tell us more about who you are outside of your "passion". Your 1000character write-up is about you as a person and what you can achieve regardless of your passions.

THE TEST

1) What is exactly asked during the aptitude test?
- we cannot tell you that but it has to do with the Diploma requirements, every diploma has a different test, some want to see Observation, some logic, some drawing, and design abilities.
The test is on paper.

2) What if ur portfolio is good but you didn't do well on the test?
You might not go through the second stage of the interview.

3) Do most candidates pass the aptitude test?
It depends on the Diploma. For Animation, Games & Visual Effects less than half of them pass.

4) what are we required to bring to the aptitude test
Writing and drawing supplies. Phones and calculators are not allowed

THE INTERVIEW

1) I am very worried about the interview and very shy. How can I prepare myself?
- Our lecturers are very nice they will discuss your portfolio of work, passion & interest, and reasons for applying to your chosen course. They might ask a few questions to see if you researched the school properly before applying.
The interview should take about 15 min. Just be yourself.

It differs from DPP (ITE) because it's 1 year instead of 2.

Eligibility Criteria

The early admission exercise is for those students who shows passion, aptitude and attitude towards specific subjects.

It opens in June and it is offered to all the students who are taking O'leves the following November.

You would need to:
1) prepare a portfolio.
2) take an aptitude test
3) go through an interview.

For the application process you would need to prepare:

- 600 characters writeup specific to the diplomas you apply to (so yes, if you apply to 3 different ones you need to vary)
- 1000 characters writeup where you talk about your achievements (here you flex)
If all goes well you would receive a conditional offer (usually around the first week of September).

If you are revoked

SDAE is a very competitive admission exercise as there are very little slots left/set aside for special Direct Admission applicants.

Once the JAE exercise ends the individual diplomas go through the SDAE application and will start calling the ideal candidates.

This process can take place any time from February to April.
So you have to be patient and wait.

What if you don't get called?
Call NYP mainline and ask to talk to Admissions/registrar for any inquiry you may have.

This Common Entry Programme is not a full diploma. It's a common semester that introduces you to all the disciplines taught in the other diplomas (except Architecture and Games Development & Technology) to help you make an informed choice in semester 2.

That's when the students will select their diploma/specialization.

IMPORTANT

The condition is that you pass O'levels and meet the Minimum Entry Requirements. If if you do not succeed and when you receive the Form A you only see ITE codes that means your offer has been revoked.

How Does EAE work?

After you apply for EAE through the EAE Portal, your 3 choices and Write-ups will be sent to all the polys.

If your application went through smoothly NYP will then send you an email asking you to send them the link to your portfolio.

Include the testimonials in a separate section of your portfolio to be shown during interview.

Once your Portfolio is uploaded you will be asked to register for the test using a Registration Genius App.

The test will take place after all the applications are received. It is about 45 minutes, it will test your aptitude, attitude, and passion and it is different for every diploma.
The test will be face to face, on paper, bring writing and drawing supplies. No phones and calculators are allowed.

The first screening happens here.

If you pass the test you will be called in for the interview.

You will, once again, book the date and time using the app.

It is usually 15 minutes. 1 student talks to a panel of 2 lecturers. (it might be f2f or via zoom).

ELR2B2 net aggregate score= English Language (EL) + 2 Relevant Subjects (R1, R2) - For example Elementary or Additional Mathematics is R1 + 2 Best Subjects (B1, B2) minus CCA bonus points.
