Dr. Krishna,
Thank you so much for two wonderful years of challenging, instructive, and enthusiastic biology classes. I was grateful every day of my lower division biology courses at UCD that you pushed us beyond the minimum requirements and guided us in understanding rather than memorizing concepts. I recently declared my major as 'genetics and genomics,' and currently hold employment as a biology tutor. Whenever someone inquires about the origin of my passion for the sciences, I speak of you. Thank you for everything!
- Michelle Frees

Bio AP really made me think and ask beyond what was asked of me for once in school. It wasn't just a matter of getting through the test, it was actually getting the material. Class wasn't just a time to get an A and talk to friends, it was a time to really understand the nuances that couldn't be grasped alone. Though you didn't answer every question on the spot, you always gave it your best shot rather than brushing it off as unimportant to the class. The times where you didn't know, you'd always make sure to research it later and come back to me with a response. I can only try my best to express my gratitude for what you see as natural for a teacher to do. I don't get that from many of my other teachers who brush it off as unnecessary for the curriculum. As a teacher and a person, you are a role model for me, and I would say I won't forget any of your lessons, buuuuuttt that would be a lie. What I can say for certain is I won't be forgetting you anytime soon and I will do my best to teach others the same way you taught me. Your passion and determination are something that is a shame to not be able to see again, not to mention the faces you make when I say something dumb.

-Your favorite student (beyond a shadow of a doubt :P) Andy Tong
Wow, I didn't even mention rec letter help yet. As you know, the public school system often encourages teaching to a curriculum, rote memorization, and learning without real understanding. When I stepped in your classroom, I always knew I would be in an environment that was academically challenging and stimulating. Your high and unbudgeable standards allowed all of us to learn so much in your class and you prioritized the top student learning instead of the bottom student getting an A. We are sorely lacking more teachers like you, and I am deeply grateful for your resistance to the school's push towards lower standards.

It's been a lot of fun taking your class for two years. Your class freshmen year really prepared me for high school like no other freshmen class. The rigor of your class helped me to learn how to study and made me learn more in that class than I have in most of the classes I have taken at Mountain View so far. Taking AP Bio has really helped me develop my interest into Bio, something that I want and am excited to major in college. But overall, I most enjoyed your weird, but effective, metaphors and your sense of humor that never failed to crack me up.

Thanks for everything,
-Darren Liu P5

I appreciate and will continue to appreciate all the work you have put in to help me and countless of other students learn more about biology and deepen our knowledge on this subject. You've been an inspiration to me (and many others) as you are one of very few people who are really dedicated in what you are doing. I will always remember you as you have had a huge impact on my life and really taught me a lot in the 1 year I have had you. I hope you will appreciated wherever you are going and will continue to teach other students and help them like you've helped all of us out here at MVHS. Thank you for showing us videos and taking the time to come up will all those review questions. Thank you also for teaching us that it is not the grade that matters, but what we learn and remember from our classes. You have taught me so much about biology at the perfect pace and made it such an interesting field. I have found biology much more fascinating than before, and now I am diving much deeper into biology. I have never had a teacher spend so much time helping me on an individual level, or ever had a teacher that I could immediately go to if I needed something. Thank you for helping me so many times without getting fed up with my misunderstandings, it is extremely difficult not to. Your analogies were really helpful in decoding a hard concept, and the science jokes will always be unforgettable. At first, I found this class very challenging and difficult. However, this class has taught me many life lessons, such as time-management and discipline. Your personality is truly unique, no other teacher can be serious and funny at the same time. Thank you for spending time to help me with matters outside of school, such as the recommendation letters you wrote. One of the strongest memories I had this year was finding out this was your last year. I was incredibly looking forward to an AP Bio class with you. I hope that you will come back and teach AP Bio, or somehow meet you again later on.

Those who have you as a teacher next year will be very lucky, and I hope the respect you get will be much better than what you got from our school. Coming into this year I would never have predicted that it would turn out being my favorite class, yet I’ve had so many great experiences this year to make it so. I learned more in your class than in any other I’ve taken, and not just about Bio. I learned how to write a proper lab report, how to take notes I’ll actually be able to recall, and how to write a research paper. The ecological issues paper was so much fun to write, surprisingly enough. You’re an amazing teacher, one of the best I’ve ever had. I’ll never forget how passionate you were about the class, and making sure we learned to learn, not to get an A. I’ll never forget all the stories you told every Tuesday when we came to your class for tutorial period, they always made me laugh. Or the look on your face when you received that singing valentine. I wish you the best of luck in the coming year, and those which follow. We’ll all miss you.

Sincerely,

	Noelle Crawford (Bio Hons ‘16-’17)

Your passion for biology and dedication to teaching and learning is infectious in the best way possible and have shown me so many things in past year.

Dr. Krishna,
Thank you for two incredible years if Biology and so much more. I started my freshman year in regular bio and got bumped up into your class after a month. I failed my first test, but as soon as I really started learning about bio, I fell in love. Every unit got more and more exciting and interesting and I have to say that AP Bio has been the same experience. Aside from the knowledge of Biology that you have given countless students, you are an incredible role model. You stand up for what you believe in and emphasize the idea that you truly can do anything if you want it enough. I am so sad that MVHS students of the future will not be able to get the same Biology education
that I did, but I am sure you'll continue inspiring students at another school. Thank you so much for opening my eyes to a whole new world of knowledge and helping me find my passion.
-Olivia Porat

It is very unfortunate that I got to know you in my junior year, but that made it more special for me to be in your class. I really appreciate all the different things that you taught me this year. I also love your passion for not just biology, but biology education, and how it is important for students to understand and make connections between different sub-fields of biology and to real life. This kind of learning was really new to me and made biology much more mesmerizing and personal. Also it was really great that while I took AP Bio, my brother took bio honors, because we could be insulting each other with biology related stuff and we would be insulted by it. I really want to thank you for a great year and I wish you the best in your future endevours. I'll really miss your sarcasm, sometimes dark application of biology to real life, wonderful British accent, and rants about how our admin is annoying.

PS. I think green tea is the perfect amount of caffeine to keep me focused, alert and not have bad side effects.

Thank you so much!!!

-Brian Hong

Whether it be watching you and Nitin's antics or hearing you talk about wanting to become a fish to escape the school system, you made each class a joy to be in and made every unit more enjoyable than the last. You made a subject I was not really interested in interesting and made every slow and tiring school day just that much better. I sincerely hope you succeed in all of your further ventures whether it be learning Hindi or finding the 'autonomy' you so desire in your students. :)
Best wishes- Kian Manghise

Dear Dr. Krishna,

Words alone cannot describe how much of an impact you have had not only on my love for biology, but on the way I approach complex issues. Through all the flowery “noises” and messes that people claimed was the right thing to do, you were like a breath of fresh air. The more I thought about it, the more I saw the perfection in such simple but powerful ways of teaching as you did. Your commitment to true equity and to making something past the material we are given, has inspired me to always look for the same. Your class, even if there were days where everyone was tired or not as involved in the course material, never had a dull moment. You were a role model for every person in that classroom, because you modeled the perfect balance of strength, humor, and a commitment to higher learning. Most of all, your ability to draw connections between everything somehow made all of the facts and information click. I will miss our conversations that we had in your classroom, especially when I missed tests and you would tell me your philosophy on life! You had such a beautiful way of approaching happiness, and your drive to understand complexity for the sake of understanding the processes that drive our life have inspired me to do the same. Best of all, you acknowledged the power and vast intelligence of the greats of biology allowed us to appreciate the long reaching effects of their experiments.

Your respect and admiration for students was perhaps one of your most defining qualities. You knew that putting the power in the hands of the students was the key to making them succeed, and because of that, every student in your class improved 10 fold. Even though sometimes we complained about our grades, we knew it wasn't about that- and the challenge pushed us to become better people. It is often said that you know a teacher has done their job when their students do not need them anymore- I would argue that every student in your class is so much better equipped to dealing with challenges and learning new material on their own, and pursuing knowledge for the love of knowledge, not for the mindless accumulation of information. You have truly done your job to the fullest, every single year, and I really hope you know that every student who has gone through your class will use and appreciate the skills you taught them in whatever endeavor they choose.

I will truly miss you Dr. Krishna, and I will always look back at your class with fond memories. I will miss the chocolate cakes, denim jackets, furry coats, concept maps!, Biology Club meetings, self confidence, Campbell puns, articles, and discussions. Most of all, I will miss eating foods in your class!!

I know that any student that has you in the future will be extremely lucky, and your unyielding self confidence is why you have remained so amazing all these years- everyone can see that your strict adherence and drive to ensuring that students learn is what makes your class so fascinating and successful.

Biology is truly as beautiful as you were trying to tell us the entire year!

Thank you for putting up with all of our antics and putting them to good use :)

All hail phage lambda!!!

-Nishan

Thank you so much for this year! Your class was such a fun, unique experience, and although this was definitely the most challenging class I've ever had, it was also the most rewarding. Thanks to you, I have learned so many important life skills that I will continue to use in my everyday life and studying, like concept maps and understanding how everything worked. You taught us that it isn't about memorizing things and getting that perfect A; it's about the curiosity and the hard work and the dedication. This year has been one that really made me see and do and think about everything in a different light, and I will never forget all the experiences I had and all the life lessons I learned in this class. I never really thought that I would come to enjoy biology so much, and yet here I am, inspired by your own enthusiasm. I found myself having so much fun in your class, what with tutorial period and your stories and funny cynicism. You have done so much for us, from your review qs to the videos you put up, and for all of this I am extremely grateful. I was so sad when I heard you wouldn't be teaching AP or honors anymore, and we will all miss you very much, but your love for biology is so unmistakable, and I hope you will always be able to enjoy pursuing your passions and doing what you love!
- Emma Leihe (Bio Hons 2016-17)
