         <title>Topic 1: What is science and how does it work?</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I have previously held the idea that science is primarily experiment and formula based. Afterall, that is mainly what I was taught in high school. After taking WC 100, I realize that science is actually a way of thinking. It is used to form questions, create observations, and analyze results; I came to this conclusion while listening to the video: "Science in America", starring Neil deGrasse Tyson. Now that I know this, I will be able to apply the scientific way of thinking to my everyday life. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Topic 2: How does the scientific method relate to scientific inquiry and how does inquiry-based learning impact student learning.</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Before taking NS 100, I was not aware of how often the scientific method and inquiry is used in the classroom.&nbsp; During my interviews and observations, I was able to recognize how teachers incorporate both of these scientific strategies into lessons. I analyzed how scientific inquiry is incorporated into the scientific method to enhance student learning. Examples of this that I saw included group discussions, higher order questioning, and critical thinking. Using scientific inquiry alongside the scientific method will allow students to create a scientific way of thinking that can be used in all aspects of their lives. I plan to use these types of techniques in my own classroom in the future.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <title>Topic 3: What are the characteristics of life and what does it means to be alive?</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>There was point in my life that I held the idea that life consisted of strictly plants and animals. However, during high school and through NS 100 I have been able to learn that the identification of life is much more complex than what I originally learned. After watching the video, "Threshold 5 overview - Big History Project", I was able to identify that the four characteristics of life include homeostasis, metabolism, reproduction, and gradual diversification. In order to be considered alive, all organisms must hold these attributes. I find it interesting that all living things share these qualities, and after my time in NS 100 comes to an end I can see this being something that I attempt to develop a deeper understanding of.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <title>Topic 4: How does microscopic changes have macroscopic effects?</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Before entering the NS 100 course, I didn't pay much attention to how microscopic changes can have macroscopic effects. However, after developing a better understanding of natural selection and adaptation, I feel enlightened of how such a small change can make a hug impact. I came to this conclusion during the bunny simulation lab. It really brought my awareness to how simple environmental factors can eliminate an entire population and create a species with new qualities. For example, when the "tough food" option was selected on the simulation, only the bunnies with long teeth were able to survive. This shows how one small factor can create a drastic change. Learning this has allowed me to become hyperaware of my surroundings. I am starting to realize things in my own community that are a result of natural selection and adaptation. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Topic 5: How has my scientific perspective changed since the beginning of the semester?</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Before entering this semester, I viewed science as textbook readings, lab experiments, and memorizing information. however, my perspective is beginning to change as I dive farther into this course. I am starting to see that science is a way of life and can be informally incorporated into my personall and professional lifestyle. I hope to use this new skillset in the future. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Before taking this course, I had limited knowledge of science in general. While I do not currently work in a science classroom, NS 100 has still been beneficial for my lifelong learning. I am becoming better equipped to utilize scientific thinking and observation tools. Doing simulation labs, interviews, and classroom observations have allowed me to feel more confident in my abilities. These are qualities that are important for me to acquire if I should one day desire become a science teacher. </div>]]></description>
