Color blindness does not directly affect a person's life span. The symptoms however can cause something unrelated to the person biological health. For example: A person approaches a red light but they can't see the color red due to their color blindness so they crash and injure themselves/die. Color blindness was not directly responsible but it did cause the problem.

http://www.zeldesoptometry.com/color-blindness.gif

Genetic Counselor: How is it classified?/How does it arise?

The disorder is classified by the inability to perceive different colors. It is inherited and can not be caused by environmental factors. Color blindness is caused by a single mutation in the sequence for eyes and the colors they perceive. Sometimes a sequence will be missing a certain part of the sequence thus making the person lose a color that they can see.

http://www.americanbookcompany.com/newsite/samplebooks/SAMPLE%20PAGES%20-%20Passing%20the%20Tennessee%20End-Of-Cource%20Biology/files/assets/seo/page14_images/0001.jpg

Genetic Counselor: How frequently does Color Blindness appear?/How do you cope?

Color blindness appears more in males than in females. This is because the gene for seeing colors is encoded in the X Chromosome.

For new parents with a color blind child, please realize that this condition has no direct effect on your child's well being. It's simply a condition that eliminates some colors from their vision. Your child will still develop the same emotionally and still be as healthy biologically. There are some exercises that can help your child identify a color that they cant see, so it would be useful to take that route.

http://www.qualityliferesources.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/male-eye.jpg

The parents should be fully aware that color blindness has no direct health effect on the child. They will still live their entire life (however long) but they simply won't be able to see some colors. Color blindness has not been proven to have a direct correlation with general blindness so it's also not a huge concern. Rest assured that your child will live a healthy happy life even if their eyes can't see every color that others do.
