Sara Fortis was a resistance member. She was born in 1927 in Chalkis, Greece. She was 100% Greece but celebrated Jewish holidays. She grew up with her sister and mother, she did not have a father because he sadly died when Sara was only 2 months old. Sara decided she wanted to take action after the Germans arrived in Chalkis, Greece (where she lived).

Sara's Resistance

Sara decided to become an andante (resistance fighter). Wanting to play a significant role in the group, she traveled from village to village to recruit other females who wanted to fight. She formed a great resistance group that saved lives. On her first mission, they threw crude bombs at at enemies to distract the enemy. On other missions they would also execute Nazi collaborators, burn down house, and aided injured men. By the age of 18 she was known as the Resistance leader. After the war Sara got arrested and put in jail, by the government, but later got released.

Fortis lives to tell her story and stand up for the women who changed the war. She showed women that they could help and make a difference just as much as any man.

These are an example of World War 2 ghettos. Sara Fortis smuggled people out of these ghettos and would save their lives, she would also recruit some women she found in these ghettos to join resistance.
