My great grandpa came to the United States for military purposes. When he came to  America, he met my great grandmother. My great grandma already had a boyfriend at the time, but my great grandpa followed Samoan traditions and asked for her hand in marriage. Eventually my great grandparents got married and my great grandma cried on her wedding day because she didn't want to marry my grandfather.
